2025 Fantasy Outlook
A 2022 fourth-round pick, Austin didn't play at all his rookie season and then caught just 17 passes in 2023, before taking a big step last year with a 36-548-4 receiving line on 58 targets. At 5-foot-9, 162, he's one of the smallest players in the NFL but also one of the fastest (4.30 40). Austin was largely limited to three-wide sets last year, taking 52.4 percent of his snaps from the slot, and that may be the case again in 2025 even though the Steelers have poor depth at wide receiver. They swapped out George Pickens for DK Metcalf, leaving Austin to compete with Roman Wilson, Robert Woods, Scotty Miller and others for the Nos. 2 and 3 WR spots. But they also traded for TE Jonnu Smith, which likely means more two-TE sets with Pat Freiermuth and fewer snaps for Austin. Even if Austin locks down a regular role, there's no guarantee of increased target volume, as he's unlikely to be an every-down player or see a lot of passes in a run-first offense under Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. RANKS
Not in uniform Thursday
Austin (abdomen) isn't suited up ahead of Thursday's preseason game at Carolina, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Austin thus won't play during exhibition season due to an abdominal injury that has lingered since at least Aug. 3. The Steelers tinkered with the top of their receiving corps this offseason by swapping out George Pickens (Dallas) for DK Metcalf (Seattle), but Austin otherwise doesn't have much competition for WR reps behind Metcalf. The 2022 fourth-round pick put together a 36-548-4 line on 58 targets in 17 regular-season games last year.

Austin looked like an emerging player through four games last season. During that time, the receiver averaged three catches and 33 yards. However, the Steelers offense was a mess. The team relied heavily on their rushing attack. That led to Austin catching six passes for 44 yards over his last 13 games. Although it’s possible that Austin sees an increase in snaps this season, but the receiver may have to hold off rookie Roman Wilson for a prominent role in the offense. Also, it is worrisome that Arthur Smith is the offensive coordinator. The new coach will likely continue to feature the run game. As a result, Austin may not see enough targets to have a breakout season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Ready for No. 2 role
Austin is second on the depth chart at wide receiver for the Steelers ahead of training camp, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Pittsburgh had a busy offseason turning over the wide receiver position, acquiring DK Metcalf from Seattle only to trade George Pickens to Dallas. That shuffle still leaves the team without a proven second wide receiver, though position coach Zach Azzanni indicated during minicamp that Austin is set to fill that role. His hold on the job could be tenuous however, as the Steelers have remained prominent in trade rumors to acquire to another pass catcher.
