2025 Fantasy Outlook
A 2022 fourth-round pick, Austin didn't play at all his rookie season and then caught just 17 passes in 2023, before taking a big step forward last year with a 36-548-4 receiving line on 58 targets. At 5-foot-9, 162 pounds, he's one of the smallest players in the NFL but also one of the fastest (4.30 40). Austin was largely limited to three-wide sets last year, taking 52.4 percent of his snaps from the slot, and that may be the case again in 2025 even though the Steelers have poor depth at wide receiver. They swapped out George Pickens for DK Metcalf, leaving Austin to compete with Roman Wilson, Robert Woods, Scotty Miller and others for the Nos. 2 and 3 WR spots. The problem for fantasy is that there's no guarantee of increased target volume even if Austin locks down a role, as he's unlikely to be an every-down player or see a lot of passes in a run-first offense under Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Moving up depth chart?
Austin has improved odds for a starting job after the Steelers traded WR George Pickens to Dallas, Chris Adamski of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Austin was second among Pittsburgh's wide receivers in targets, catches and yards last season, but he didn't get much playing time in formations with fewer than three wide receivers, and his average of 3.4 targets per game in the regular season was far below what's needed for fantasy relevance in most leagues. It could be a similar situation this year, only with DK Metcalf replacing Pickens as the clear No. 1 and Robert Woods replacing Van Jefferson as the veteran who is valued for blocking and experience more so than drawing targets. Austin is in a better position than he would've been had the Steelers kept both Metcalf and Pickens, but huge snap counts remain unlikely for one of the NFL's smallest players (Austin is listed at 5-foot-9, 162 pounds).

2023
2022
Austin looked like an emerging player through four games last season. During that time, the receiver averaged three catches and 33 yards. However, the Steelers offense was a mess. The team relied heavily on their rushing attack. That led to Austin catching six passes for 44 yards over his last 13 games. Although it’s possible that Austin sees an increase in snaps this season, but the receiver may have to hold off rookie Roman Wilson for a prominent role in the offense. Also, it is worrisome that Arthur Smith is the offensive coordinator. The new coach will likely continue to feature the run game. As a result, Austin may not see enough targets to have a breakout season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
WR2 role in play?
Mark Kaboly of The Athletic posits that Austin's consistency during OTAs has given the 2022 fourth-round pick a legitimate shot at the No. 2 wideout spot behind George Pickens.
ANALYSIS
Kaboly believes that it's a four-way battle for the WR2 spot between Austin, Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins and rookie Roman Wilson. It could simply come down to who quarterback Russell Wilson develops the most trust in throughout OTAs and training camp. Although he finished 2023 with 17 catches for 180 yards, Austin had a strong start to the season, accumulating 12 catches for 143 yards and a touchdown over the first four games.
