Tournament Preview

A new event this week for the European Tour, the ISPS Handa Vic Open in Australia. This is a unique tournament in that both men and women will play in separate tournaments simultaneously. Golfers will play the Beach Course and the Creek Course the first two days, and finish on the Beach Course after the cut is made. There is an additional cut made after the third day. Focus will be on the Beach Course, but both are shorter and require precision. The beach course is a links-style course, with undulating fairways and large bunkers. Water hazards are minimal. Being this is the first time for this event, recent form and all around accuracy will help guide the picks.

DRAFTKINGS PICKS

Jason Scrivener $11,100 (14/1)

My backing of Scrivener continues, as I said it would. This week is as good as any for him to get the W. He is a local, and is in stellar form at the moment. He played well on his homeland in November, with a T6 at Australian PGA Championship. Scrivener has all the accuracy skills need to succeed at 13th Beach GC. He is ranked 38th in driving accuracy and is 13th in SG: approach. This should be a big week for the Aussie.

Aaron Rai $9,900 (22/1)

Rai is another accurate golfer that is in good form. He is one of the best on Tour in driving accuracy, ranking 4th. He is also accurate with approach, ranking 7th in greens in regulation. He has been playing good golf since November of last year and won Honma Hong Kong Open. His putter has been hot as well, he is 27th in SG: putting.

Ashley Chesters $7,300 (80/1)

Chesters has made only two cuts of his first four starts, which isn't ideal. Yet I think he is worth some consideration at this venue. He is a short hitter, and that will not affect him this week. He can succeed at the right layouts. He is extremely accurate off the tee, ranking 2nd on Tour. Chesters is a great ball striker, he is ranked 21st in greens in regulation and 54th in SG: approach. 13th Beach GC will be a great match for Chesters' game.

Andrew Johnston $7,200 (30/1)

Johnston finished T24 last time out at Omega Dubai Desert Classic. It appears that this links style course should fit his game well. He has strong iron play and should be able to take advantage of the layout. He is ranked 18th in SG: approach and 21st in SG: tee to green. He performed well in Australia in December, finishing T9 at Australian PGA Open.
