Williams, who spent the first six years of his career with the Bengals, signed with the Patriots this offseason, but was cut in training camp. While the 2019 sixth-rounder is unlikely to garner enough touches on offense to find himself on the fantasy radar, the 5-foot-8, 206-pounder could earn another gig thanks to his ability as a returner. Williams rushed three times for 17 yards and brought in all four targets for 38 yards in the Browns' 23-20 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
After Quinshon Judkins exited the game in the second quarter with what was eventually diagnosed as a broken fibula and dislocated ankle, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Williams and Raheim Sanders both saw expanded roles. Williams operated in a change-of-pace and pass-catching role, actually pacing the Browns in receiving yards on the afternoon. Williams projects for additional opportunity over the final two games of the season due to Judkins' absence, but Dylan Sampson (calf/hand) could potentially join the backfield mix in a Week 17 home matchup against the Steelers after missing the last two games.

Williams is 26 years old and entering his sixth professional season, which a little too old and a little too experienced for him to continue to be an "ascending" running back, a term applied to Williams ever since he was drafted out of Texas A&M in 2019. Though he played more offensive snaps (156) in 2023 than ever, that translated into only 15 carries and nine targets. Williams played a bigger role on special teams, with 294 snaps and 290 kick return yards. Though the Bengals didn't add another RB in the draft, Williams will still likely contribute the most on special teams again in 2024.
