2024 Fantasy Outlook
Williams is 26 years old and entering his sixth professional season, which a little too old and a little too experienced for him to continue to be an "ascending" running back, a term applied to Williams ever since he was drafted out of Texas A&M in 2019. Though he played more offensive snaps (156) in 2023 than ever, that translated into only 15 carries and nine targets. Williams played a bigger role on special teams, with 294 snaps and 290 kick return yards. Though the Bengals didn't add another RB in the draft, Williams will still likely contribute the most on special teams again in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Limited to special-teams role
Williams played 14 snaps -- all on special teams -- in Monday's 38-33 loss to the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Williams has been active for each of the Bengals' first three games, but he has yet to make his 2024 debut on offense while Cincinnati has turned to Zack Moss and Chase Brown to handle all the running-back snaps. His standing as a part-time kick returner and core member of the Bengals' special-teams coverage units should allow Williams to continue to suit up on a weekly basis, but he may not be guaranteed a substantial role out of the backfield even if one of Moss or Brown were to miss time.

Even though Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan described Williams as an "ascending player," Williams has seen a descending number of offensive snaps and touches over the course of his career, culminating in only six carries and two catches last season, despite Joe Mixon missing three games. Samaje Perine is now in Denver, but Mixon remains, at least for now, and the Bengals added Chase Brown to the backfield and Charlie Jones as a potential returner in the draft. It might take two injuries for Williams to climb the Bengals' ladder into fantasy relevance.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Expected to make team
Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic believes Williams will make Cincinnati's 53-man roster despite having missed the team's first two preseason games due to a sprained ankle.
ANALYSIS
Both Chris Evans and rookie Chase Brown have taken advantage of Williams' absence. Evans appears poised to begin the season as the Bengals' third-down back, while Brown profiles as the top backup to Joe Mixon on early downs. Despite dropping to fourth on the depth chart as he recovers from the injury, Williams is still expected to make the team and could carve out playing time once healthy.
