2025 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Although Iowa featured many strong college running backs over the years, Johnson's level of production stood out as a clear magnitude better than any of the Hawkeye running backs going back to Shonn Greene in 2008. By running for 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns on 240 carries (6.4 YPC) in 2024, Johnson made a strong case to be selected on Day 2 of the draft, as Greene was in the 2009 draft. At 6-foot-1, 224 pounds Johnson is a big running back to be breaking so many big plays, and if he can pose a similar amount of big-play ability on a starter's volume in the NFL then he would doubtlessly prove to be a standout fantasy back. Johnson's combine performance was less than great, however – his 4.57-second 40-yard dash probably isn't enough for Johnson to break as many long runs in the NFL – so he might need to rebrand a little bit more as a pure power runner and plan on breaking fewer pursuit angles at the NFL level. Joins 2025 NFL Draft field
Johnson has announced his entry into the 2025 NFL Draft, Eliot Clough of Rivals.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson wasn't even on the NFL radar entering this past season but skyrocketed up boards after putting together a massive 2024 campaign for Iowa, totaling 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns on 240 carries while adding 22 catches for 188 yards and a pair of scores as a receiver. Johnson checks in at 6-foot, 225 pounds and doesn't possess the top-end speed to be a home-run hitter at the next level, but he's quick to find the hole, sheds arm tackles and usually falls forward when tackled. He's got a solid chance to hear his name called in the second or third round of the draft, but the NFL Combine, should he choose to participate, could go a long way to solidify his spot.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Mocked to Dallas in second round
In his seven-round mock draft Thursday, Matt Miller of ESPN.com believes the Cowboys will select Johnson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 44th overall.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys signed Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders to one-year contracts in free agency. Still, Miller believes Johnson's profile as a bruising power runner with great outside zone ability would add a dynamic to the Cowboys' backfield similar to what DeMarco Murray brought from 2011 to 2014. Johnson was a finalist for the Doak Walker Award after his final year in Iowa and finished the 2024 season with 240 carries for 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns while adding 22 catches for 188 yards and two scores.
