Exits with arm injury

Arm
September 28, 2025
Franks is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Commanders due to an arm injury, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Franks appeared to suffer the injury in the first quarter during coverage on a kickoff. He's mostly served on special teams this season, but if Franks doesn't return, then Charlie Woerner and Teagan Quitoriano would be the two healthy backup tight ends behind Kyle Pitts the rest of the way.

Franks started his career as a quarterback but made the transition to tight end last offseason. The undrafted product out of Arkansas didn't secure either of his targets across 11 appearances in 2022 and failed to carve out a role when Kyle Pitts was sidelined, totaling just 51 offensive snaps. A full offseason as a tight end should bode well for Franks' development, but he's still on the roster bubble heading into a contract year.
Franks operated as the backup quarterback to Matt Ryan last year when Josh Rosen was a healthy scratch several times during the second half of the season. Marcus Mariota is expected to be the Falcons' starting quarterback to begin the 2022 campaign, and rookie Desmond Ridder will be the primary backup, which leaves Franks as the third-stringer. However, Franks was working as a tight end during the Falcons' offseason workouts. It's unclear if the move to tight end was permanent or not, but it's unlikely the Arkansas product will be able to find consistent playing time at either position.
An undrafted free agent out of Arkansas, the athletic prospect will try to claim a roster spot as the No. 3 QB behind Matt Ryan and AJ McCarron.

Tries out for Broncos in minicamp
TEFree Agent
June 15, 2024
Franks had a tryout with the Broncos during the team's three-day mandatory minicamp, Jon Heath of USA Today Broncos Wire reports.
ANALYSIS
Franks got an opportunity while tight ends Adam Trautman, Greg Dulcich and Dylan Leonard were unavailable due to injuries. The former college quarterback dressed for 20 games with the Falcons between 2021 and 2022, but Franks has struggled to carve out a meaningful role as a tight end in the NFL. Franks wasn't signed by the Broncos after minicamp.
