2024 Fantasy Outlook
Last season was Thielen's first in Carolina, following a pair of 700-yard seasons his final two years in Minnesota. Going from Kirk Cousins to Bryce Young was a downgrade in quarterback play, but that didn't stop Thielen from turning back the clock in his age-33 campaign, especially early in the year. He averaged 8.1 catches for 83.0 yards on 10.0 targets over the first seven weeks, scoring four TDs in the process. After that, Thielen was still Carolina's most targeted receiver but to a much lesser extent, averaging 4.6 catches for 43.3 yards on 6.7 targets (with nary a touchdown). During the offseason, the Panthers added WRs Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette, making Thielen highly unlikely to match last year's total of 137 targets even if he's still Young's security blanket for short passes under new coach Dave Canales. Set to avoid surgery
Panthers head coach Dave Canales said that Thielen won't require surgery for the right hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday's 36-22 win over the Raiders, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Carolina seemingly expects Thielen to make a full recovery from the injury through rest and rehab. After landing on injured reserve Tuesday, Thielen will be required to miss at least the team's next four games, and he won't be eligible to resume practicing until Week 8. Diontae Johnson should serve as the clear-cut No. 1 option in the Carolina passing attack sans Thielen, while young wideouts Xavier Legette and Jonathan Mingo will both move up a spot on the depth chart.

Thielen scored 30 TDs his final three seasons in Minnesota, but only six last year as his per-game averages dropped to 4.1 catches for 42.1 yards. His 6.7 YPT was easily a career low, and he now heads to Carolina on a three-year, $25 million contract ($14 million guaranteed) to give No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young an experience receiver to target. It's a situation that assures Thielen of a starting job and at least a handful of targets per game, but a big rebound is unlikely as he enters his age-33 season relying on a 22-year-old QB and a new coaching staff. Any value might be limited to PPR leagues, as the Panthers don't have much else in terms of quality targets -- the other "top" options are DJ Chark, second-round pick Jonathan Mingo, Terrace Marshall and TE Hayden Hurst.

Advocates for Young
Thielen publicly endorsed demoted quarterback Bryce Young on Wednesday and talked positively of the 2023 first overall pick's future, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. "Just in the moment, watching him practice today, the throws he was making, his confidence," Thielen said. "You know he can do this at a high level."
ANALYSIS
The veteran wideout has been with Young since Day 1 of the latter's arrival on the scene in Carolina, and he publicly defended his teammate Wednesday. Thielen has just a five catches for 69 yards on seven targets over the first two games this season while working with Young, but that didn't stop him from saying he's "excited" for the young signal-caller's future.
