South Africa vs. Sri Lanka: Third ODI preview

Match Details:
South Africa vs Sri Lanka, 3rd ODI, March 10, 2019
Kingsmead, Durban

Preview

South Africa return to the venue where Kusal Perera humiliated them in the Test series and have a shaky record at Durban to overcome. Know as the best place for visiting Asian teams in South Africa, Durban is where the Lankans will hope to make a comeback in the series. They were humbled in both the ODIs and have struggled to carry forward the momentum from the Tests with the batsmen in particular in focus after a poor outing in the previous game on a belter at Centurion.

That Durban will spin should encourage the Lankans who might ponder bringing back Sandakan for this encounter. South Africa will want to try Shamsi and might opt to rest Rabada or Ngidi. Steyn is also set to make his first appearance in the ODI series while the batting is likely to remain the same.

Conditions: Assistance for spinners expected although the pitch could be a belter once settled down.

Player recommendations

Wicket-keeper: Quinton de Kock (10 credits)

De Kock comes off the back of a terrific knock at Centurion and Johannesburg. The wicket-keeper batsman has been among the few bright spots for the Proteas in the batting line-up. He is likely to avenge for missing out on a century last match and should be a must pick in your fantasy side.

Batsman:  Faf du Plessis (10.5 credits)

The South African skipper has been in rip-roaring form

Wicket-keeper: Quinton de Kock (10 credits)

De Kock comes off the back of a terrific knock at Centurion and Johannesburg. The wicket-keeper batsman has been among the few bright spots for the Proteas in the batting line-up. He is likely to avenge for missing out on a century last match and should be a must pick in your fantasy side.

Batsman:  Faf du Plessis (10.5 credits)

The South African skipper has been in rip-roaring form with seven back to back half-century plus scores in ODI cricket. With a superb century in the series followed by a half-century, Du Plessis is set to take the series by the scruff of the neck with a big knock. Expect that at Durban in the third match.

All-rounder: Thisara Perera (9.5 credits)

Perera has been quite an influencer for Sri Lanka in ODIs in recent times. Surprisingly, he is yet to stamp his mark in the series and we could see that in this match at Durban. The all-rounder could be in for a role with the bat too given that he hasn't clicked so far. His bowling and change of pace could also be good at Durban.

Bowler: Imran Tahir (8.5 credits)

Tahir has made an outstanding comeback in this series and at Durban where the surface could turn, the South African might be in for a big haul. Tahir hasn't been worked out by the Lankan batsmen and the leggie, who announced he would be retiring after the World Cup, could have a great match tomorrow.

Captain: Oshada Fernando
Vice-captain: Imran Tahir
