DFS College Football 101: Showdown Slate: San Diego State vs. Ohio

In this article, I will be breaking down the Single Game slate of the Frisco Bowl between San Diego State and Ohio on Wednesday, December 19 at 8 ET. This is your classic clash of high-scoring offense (Ohio) vs. stout defense (San Diego State), which should make for an interesting all-around matchup.

Looking within that, I'll highlight the best fantasy selections on FanDuel & DraftKings while categorizing them as core plays and worthy fillers. Let's get to it!

VEGAS INFO

Ohio checks in as 2.5-point favorites and the over/under sits at 50.5

TEAM INFO

CORE PLAYS

Nathan Rourke – QB – Ohio (FanDuel $17,500 / DraftKings $12,400)

Get this man in your lineups! Rourke has been headlined probably more than any other player in the weekday DFS College Football 101 series, consistently paying dividends with 33+ fantasy points in four of his past six games. He's easily the most capable fantasy producer in this matchup, and you'd be wise to automatically place him in your MVP spot on FanDuel. Paying 1.5 times is salary for the "captain" spot on DraftKings is more of a difficult decision, but Rourke's dual-threat ability makes him such a strong fantasy asset – even in a subpar draw on paper like this one.

A.J. Ouellette – RB – Ohio (FanDuel $15,500 / DraftKings $12,000)

The matchup doesn't look good at all. San Diego State ranks third in the nation for overall run defense and fourth in yards per carry allowed (2.8). However, Ouellette will see plenty of carries within this capable Ohio offense, and he should get a few cracks at the end-zone as well. The Ohio running back has been on a tear with 26+ fantasy points in three straight. I'm not expecting that level of production, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 touches mixed with goal-line looks is more than good enough on this Single Game slate.

Juwan Washington – FB – San Diego State (FanDuel $14,500 / DraftKings 11,400)

Washington missed a month due to a collarbone injury earlier this season, but he returned for the last five games. The San Diego State running back is averaging 109 yards per contest, and he'll likely find himself with a giant workload for the Aztecs' run-heavy approach. Ohio ranks middle-of-the-pack against opposing rushing attacks (67th in yard per carry allowed), so there's definitely an opportunity for Washington to post some numbers. I'll look to stack the running backs from both teams in my lineup, but Washington gains the slight edge over Ouellette if you are deciding between the two. He has a better matchup with a cheaper price point.

WORTHY FILLERS

Andrew Meyer – WR – Ohio (FanDuel $10,500 / DraftKings $5,800)

Papi White is the big-play receiver for Ohio, but Andrew Meyer is a steady target who checks in at a much cheaper salary. There's a chance the Bobcats are forced to the air more than usual in this game, considering that San Diego State is so tough against the run. Meyer has repeatedly shown the ability to produce stat-lines in the neighborhood of 5 catches, 60 yards and a score this season. The senior may be called upon to deliver that kind of performance on Wednesday. I especially like the price point on DraftKings.

Fred Trevillion – WR – San Diego State (FanDuel $9,500 / DraftKings $6,200)

San Diego State doesn't pass the ball much. When they do, Fred Trevillion is the big play guy they turn to. He is your classic boom-or-bust tournament option for fantasy purposes, only hauling in 22 receptions on the season. However, Trevillion came up big down the stretch with six receptions, 177 yards and three scores over his past two games. However, keep in mind that he has only topped three receptions one time this season. The salary is much better on FanDuel relative to the other options on this slate.

Cameron Odom – WR – Ohio (FanDuel $7,000 / DraftKings $3,200)

I'm looking towards Odom as a potential value filler on both sites. His production has been spotty (to say the least) this season but still checks in as the starting "X" receiver on Ohio's depth chart. As mentioned earlier, there's a chance the stout San Diego State run defense can force the Bobcats throw more than usual to sustain drives. If that's the case, there will be more targets to go around among the Ohio receivers, and Odom could find himself with a few extra looks. He's hovering barely over minimum price points on both sites.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

My overall strategy is trying to stack those three "core plays" into my lineup. That will require taking chances on sub-optimal plays like Cameron Odom or Connor Brown (TE) of Ohio, but I'll take that chance. I'm not above using either kicker as a value filler if it makes the rest of my lineup work.

Ethan Dedeaux (WR) is the starting receiver opposite of Trevillion for San Diego State. As touched on earlier, the Aztecs don't like throwing the ball, but Dedeaux will be running routes whenever they decide to air it out. He racked up seven receptions for 63 yards in Week 11 vs. UNLV, so there is some room for production. The $2,400 salary on DraftKings could help complete the rest of your lineup.

I briefly touched on Papi White (WR) earlier in the article. He checks in as Ohio's top receiver with 58 receptions and 10 scores on the season. The salary is much better on DraftKings, and that's where I'm looking to buy up his shares. There's merit to taking White over teammate RB Ouelette over there with the full PPR format and wide range between their respective salaries.
