Cavaliers Dominate Against Shorthanded Nets
The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Brooklyn Nets, 118-95, at Barclays Center on Thursday.

The Cavaliers (34-16) cruised to an easy win over a depleted Nets (20-31) team despite playing on the road. The Cavaliers stood pat at the trade deadline, while the Nets looked quite active, and that was noticeable in the difference of depth both teams had available for this one. Cleveland didn’t waste time to establish its terms and cruised to a double-digit lead after the first quarter (32-21). Even though Brooklyn showed signs of life following a 30-27 score in the second quarter, the Cavaliers would pull away in the second half. The Cavaliers were far more intense than the Nets in the third quarter, and that translated to a 31-18 score for the Cavaliers, ultimately extending their lead to 21 points. The Cavs closed things out in the fourth quarter with ease, pushing their road record to 16-8. Meanwhile, the Nets fell to 12-16 playing at home.

Donovan Mitchell led the way for the Cavaliers with 27 points, but he also added five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley each posted 14 points. Mobley (12 rebounds) and Allen (10 rebounds) finished with double-doubles, while Garland added seven assists. Max Strus scored six points, but Georges Niang stepped up off the bench with a 13-point outing. The Cavaliers shot 53.8 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from three-point range.

Mikal Bridges led the way for the Nets with 26 points, five assists and three rebounds. Ben Simmons scored six points across 20 minutes. Cam Thomas had 17 points and four rebounds despite going 6-for-18 from the field. No other Nets starter scored in double digits. Trendon Watford added 15 points and six rebounds off the bench. Jalen Wilson had eight points and three rebounds in the first start of his career. Brooklyn shot 39.1 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.
