Bobby Portis

Bobby Portis was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995. The son of Tina Edwards, Portis comes from a basketball family. His mother played at Hines Community College and his uncle Anthony Hicks played at Missouri State. Portis spent four years at Hall High School in Little Rock, where he won four straight state championships. He scored 1,093 points over his final two seasons at Hall High, leading his team to a 26-5 record and a 6A State Championship as a senior. That season, he averaged 20.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.8 blocks and 2.1 assists per game. In the lead up to his freshman year at the University of Arkansas, Portis completed the trifecta of national appearances by playing in the 2013 Jordan Brand Classic, the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon, and the McDonald's All-American Game in Chicago, Illinois. When Portis decided to attend the University of Arkansas, he became the first in-state McDonald's All-American to become a Razorback since Corliss Williamson. The 6-11 forward became a starter as a freshman in 2013-14 and provided 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per contest. Portis set a career standard with 35 points to go along with nine rebounds and six blocks in a win over Alabama. He had five double-doubles, including two such games during the NIT Tournament. At the end of his freshman season, Portis earned All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Freshman honors. The forward took on more offensive responsibility as a sophomore in 2014-15. Portis averaged 17.5 points (on 53.6 percent from the field), 8.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. The forward had 14 double-doubles. Portis put up 32 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in a win over Vanderbilt. Portis was named SEC Player of the Year and led the Razorbacks back into the NCAA Tournament. He had 15 points and 13 rebounds in a first round win over Wofford and put up 18 points, 14 rebounds and five steals in a loss to North Carolina. After his sophomore campaign, Portis declared for the 2015 draft.
