Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

It won't be the busiest of nights Monday with only seven games on the schedule. However, there are still plenty of teams in positions to score a lot of runs, including a series between the Dodgers and Rockies at Coors Field. Let's dive into the matchups and highlight some players worth considering for your Yahoo entry.

Pitching Overview

Chris Paddack ($54) had an off start by his standards during his last outing against the Mets, giving up three runs across five innings. Still, his rookie campaign has been a massive success with his 2.84 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. He'll look to keep things rolling against the Orioles, who have scored the sixth-fewest runs (461) in baseball. With there being fewer options than normal, expect to see Paddack included in plenty of entries.

Merrill Kelly ($36) had a great chance to cash in on a favorable matchup against the Orioles in his last start, but they torched him for seven runs and three home runs across 2.1 innings. That's a bit concerning, especially when you consider that he's allowed at least one home run in six of his last seven outings. However, this could still be a great spot to deploy him against the Marlins. They have hit the fewest home runs (85) in baseball and have a tough time scoring runs, in general.

Continuing to attack favorable matchups brings us to Jaime Barria ($32), who will take the mound against the Tigers. The Tigers have been even worse than the Marlins, scoring by far the fewest runs (805). A couple of rough outings have really inflated Barria's numbers, although it was very encouraging to see him allow only one run across five innings against the Dodgers in his last outing. At this cheap price, he could be well worth the risk in tournament play.

Key Values/Chalk

Anytime there is a Coors Field game, the Rockies are likely to be one of the chalk stacks. They'll look to score in bunches against Kenta Maeda, who has allowed 1.4 HR/9 after giving up just 0.9 HR/9 last year. Charlie Blackmon ($21) and David Dahl ($18) should be two of the more popular options since they have a .528 wOBA and .417 wOBA, respectively, at home

The Dodgers will get their chance to do some damage against Jon Gray, who has allowed eight runs (seven earned) across 12.2 innings against them at Coors Field this season. They also have the second-highest wRC+ (117) against righties in baseball, so this could get ugly in a hurry. Cody Bellinger ($25) is the obvious option to build a Dodgers stack around while fellow lefties Max Muncy ($23) and Alex Verdugo ($18) also deserve consideration.

As if the Orioles didn't have enough problems filling out their rotation, their best pitcher in John Means (shoulder) is now on the IL. They haven't named a starter as of early Monday morning, but whoever they decide to deploy is going to be in for a tough night against the powerful Padres lineup. Fernando Tatis Jr. ($22) is particularly hot right now, hitting 27-for-76 (.355) with five home runs over his last 18 games.

Stacks

Angels vs. Jordan Zimmermann (Tigers)

Mike Trout (OF - $27), Shohei Ohtani (OF - $18), David Fletcher (3B - $17)

It's been about as bad as it can get for Zimmermann, who has allowed 24 runs across 15.1 innings in his last four starts. He had a 2.67 WHIP during that stretch, bringing his WHIP up to 1.71 for the season, overall. For those looking to potentially fade the Coors Field game, this could be the best stack to deploy. Trout and Ohtani both carry tremendous upside while Fletcher is hitting 27-for-81 (.333) with nine doubles over his last 18 games.

Reds vs. Jordan Lyles (Pirates)

Joey Votto (1B - $16), Jesse Winker (OF - $13), Josh VanMeter (OF - $8)

The wheels have come off for Lyles, who has allowed at least seven runs in three of his last four starts. He's given up at least five runs in an outing five times already this season, leaving him with a 5.36 ERA and a 4.81 FIP. Left-handed hitters have a .416 wOBA against him, making this a potentially dangerous trio. Van Meter appears to be hitting his way to more playing time, going 12-for-23 with four home runs and a .577 OBP across his last 26 plate appearances.

Royals vs. Thomas Pannone (Blue Jays)

Whit Merrifield (2B - $19), Hunter Dozier (3B - $18), Jorge Soler (OF - $16)

With the Blue Jays already selling off some of their veterans, Pannone will be recalled from the minors to start this game. His previous stretch in the majors this year did not go well, leaving him with a 4.99 FIP and a 1.51 WHIP. While the Royals aren't normally a team to stack, this matchup makes them very appealing. Dozier and Soler bring plenty of power to the table while Merrifield has continued to be one of their best all-around hitters with his .353 wOBA.
