WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

The Liberty (19-10) and the Wings (8-22) battle at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, and the Liberty are looking to turn things around. The defending WNBA champs are just 6-7 on the road this season, although the Wings are only 3-12 at home.

This is the third time these teams have met since July 28, which is when the Wings stunned the Liberty 92-82 in Arlington as an 8-point underdog. That is the only win in the past six games for Dallas.

In that upset win, Breanna Stewart (leg) sat out, and she is again sidelined on Friday. Sabrina Ionescu surprisingly struggled against the defensively-challenged Wings, going for 17 points, with most of her damage coming from the free-throw line. She finished with five assists and four rebounds. Jonquel Jones led the team with 18 points, adding seven boards, while Stephanie Talbot was sharp off the bench with a 4-for-4 shooting night, ending up with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals in just 24 minutes.

In that most recent visit to the Metroplex, the Liberty shot just 43.8 percent (28-of-64) from the field, doing the work the Wings defense couldn't. Arike Ogunbowale did the work on offense, going for 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Paige Bueckers also went for 20 points, providing six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Bueckers is dealing with a back ailment, and she missed practice Thursday, but she is expected to play. Just circle back around and double-check before finalizing those DFS lineups.

The teams had a rematch in Brooklyn, and the Liberty won 85-76 on Tuesday. This time, New York was much better, hitting 47.7 percent of its field goals, to just 37.2 percent for Dallas. Both teams actually played pretty clean, with the Liberty turning it over just eight times and the Wings turning it over seven times.

Dallas was plus-10 in rebounds in the rematch, which kept the game close. Jones went for 15 points and 10 rebounds for another double-double, while Luisa Geiselsoder had 10 rebounds to lead the Wings, although she was a dismal 2-for-10 from the field. Ogunbowale couldn't carry over her momentum from the first game, going 3-for-12 from the field, and Li Yueru was a poor 1-for-8 off the bench, although she did pull down eight boards.

Dallas allows 86.5 points (11th in the WNBA), a 45.0 percent field-goal percentage (12th) and a 37.1 percent defensive field-goal percentage (13th) per game. As such, you'll want a New York stack, especially with a short slate, but be careful, as the Liberty have several banged-up players. Ionescu and Jones should be the start of your plans.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

The Mystics (13-16) hit the road for the Twin Cities to battle the Lynx (25-5). So far this season, the teams have split, with the home team winning (and covering) each matchup.

In the most recent battle in Minneapolis on July 3, the Lynx rolled up a 92-75 victory. Napheesa Collier paced the team with 28 points on 11-for-21 shooting, but she remains sidelined for at least another 10 to 14 days due to an ankle injury.

Minnesota posted a 91-87 victory in Seattle last time out, and the new-look Lynx got the win. DiJonai Carrington, acquired from the Wings, made her debut, dropping 13 points, helping fill a little of the void left by Phee's injury. Courtney Williams was good for 20 points, including 14 in the second half, while Jessica Shepard stepped up with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Kayla McBride was also clutch at the free-throw line, going 6-for-6 in the final 30 seconds to help the Lynx hang on.

Washington also did a little trading but sold at the deadline. Brittney Sykes was shipped to Seattle, with Alysha Clark and Zia Cooke going to the nation's capital. Aaliyah Edwards was also traded to Connecticut for Jacy Sheldon and a pick swap in 2026.

Sheldon is not expected to play Friday, although Clark is fully expected to be ready. She could be an intriguing DFS option in her debut.

The Mystics were dusted 78-64 on the road against the Sky last time out. Jade Melbourne slid into the starting five, and she went for eight points on 4-for-11 shooting. Lucy Olsen played 22 minutes off the bench.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

The Storm (16-14) and Aces (16-14) are each jockeying for position in the standings. Each team has arrived at this position differently. The Aces have been banged up but are improving. Meanwhile, the Storm have gotten stronger via the deadline.

Sykes might be able to make her debut with the Storm on Friday, but it might be best to avoid her for DFS purposes, as she learns her new teammates and system on the fly, coming cross-country from D.C. Let her settle in a bit, even if she is a seasoned and decorated veteran.

Aces superstar A'ja Wilson has been looking like herself lately, going for 27 points and seven rebounds last time out at Golden State on Wednesday. In August, she is averaging 17.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists with 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game in three outings. She has three double-doubles across the past five outings, and she has scored at least 14 points in seven of the past eight games since the All-Star break.

In a game June 20 in Vegas, Wilson erupted for 20 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks against the Storm, and she is averaging 18.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.4 blocks and 2.0 steals in three meetings with Seattle this season.

Kierstan Bell started Wednesday's game against the Valkyries, but she laid another egg, going for just three points in 11 minutes. Jewell Loyd posted 14 points, including three triples, while playing 31 minutes off the bench. Loyd was originally moved to the bench to rest her knee, which had been barking a bit. She appears healthy, and whether she comes off the bench or returns to the starting lineup, Loyd is a better play than Bell.

Top WNBA DFS Picks: Key Players to Watch

FanDuel

While Ionescu has surprisingly struggled against the Wings, she is still third in the WNBA across the past 10 games, going for 21.2 PPG while hitting 20 3-pointers or 2.0 3PT per game in the span. She is also very efficient from the free-throw line, hitting 93.3 percent, so she rarely leaves points on the floor in that department. With Collier sidelined for the Lynx, look for McBride to step up in a big way against the mish-mash Mystics. Washington is rebuilding, and it might be a bit shorthanded, so McBride could be able to take advantage and go for big points. Bueckers is also a sound play for fantasy purposes. The No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 WNBA Draft is nursing that back injury, yes, but she is expected to play. She is averaging 20.5 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 4.0 APG, 2.0 SPG and 1.5 3PT per game in two meetings with the Liberty this season.

Unlocking Value: WNBA DFS Sleeper Picks

DraftKings

Wilson just seems to light up when facing the Storm, and she is especially productive cleaning the glass, while always going for a handful of blocks and steals. On a short slate, Wilson is always a good foundation for a DFS lineup. DiJonai Carrington played like she had a new lease on life after escaping the lowly Wings. Back on a championship contender, look for her to be more engaged and productive. If Hines-Allen is available, she is a solid value, and Yueru might struggle at times offensively, but she is always a solid source of rebounds at a cheap price.
