The French Open, which normally begins May 24, announced Tuesday that it will be postponed until Sept. 20. Although all ATP and WTA events in May have yet to be canceled, this announcement would suggest there will ultimately be no professional tennis through at least early June.

There is, however, the issue of there already being scheduled tournaments (Metz, St. Petersburg, Laver Cup, Chengdu, Sofia, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Seoul, Tokyo, Wuhan, Tashkent, Beijing) for this proposed new French Open date, but of course the French Open will almost assuredly take precedent. The kicker, though, is that players will be playing the French Open just over one week after the US Open concludes.
