Jalen Williams

23-Year-Old ForwardF
Oklahoma City Thunder
2024 Fantasy Outlook
After a strong rookie season, Williams took another step forward in Year 2. He boosted his three-point percentage from 35.6 to 42.7, helping him average a career-high 19.1 points per game. The 2022 No. 12 overall pick also increased his assists per game from 3.3 to 4.5. The biggest knock on Williams' game is his lack of rebounds, but that can easily be overlooked given he's above-average to elite in basically every other category. Williams, along with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren, have solidified the Thunder as a contender in the Western Conference, and the young trio still has plenty of room to grow. Oklahoma City solidified its depth by adding Isaiah Hartenstein and Alex Caruso, but neither offseason addition is expected to impact Williams' usage. Williams operating as a point-forward for one of the best teams in the league bodes well for his fantasy value, but Gilgeous-Alexander is still the go-to guy in crunch time. If Williams takes another step forward, it wouldn't be surprising to see him return second-round value, but he's a safer pick in the third or fourth round of fantasy drafts. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Jalen Williams was born in Denver, CO on April 14, 2001. Williams spent the early part of his life in Denver before his family moved to Arizona when he was seven years old. Williams attended Perry High School in Gilbert, AZ, where he averaged 23.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a junior en route to Region Offensive Player of the Year honors. A year later, Williams averaged north of 25 points per game en route to finishing as the No. 9 player in the state of Arizona, per 247Sports.com. Williams committed to play college basketball at Santa Clara. Over the course of three seasons at Santa Clara, Williams appeared in 84 games and made 74 starts. He was a two-time All-WCC selection, including being named to the All-WCC First Team as a junior in 2021-22. Williams finished that season with averages of 18.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.5 blocks while shooting 51.3 percent from the floor and 39.6 percent from beyond the arc. In May of 2022, Williams announced that he would hire an agent and keep his name in the 2022 NBA Draft. He was selected with the 12th overall pick in the draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Williams was exceptional as a rookie for a Thunder squad that fought for a Play-In spot last year. But his usage could take a hit in 2023-24, with Chet Holmgren debuting after a lost campaign due to offseason foot surgery. Either way, Williams figures to play a sizeable role for an ascending Oklahoma City team, and his multi-faceted, efficient style bodes well for his fantasy potential. Williams became a full-time starter in mid-December last year and went on to start 53 of 55 games, missing two matchups due to injury. During that stretch, the 6-foot-8 wing averaged 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.5 blocks while attempting 11.6 field goals, 2.9 three-pointers and 2.8 free throws per contest (52.1/37.9/82.7 shooting splits). Overall, Williams averaged 15.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals across 62 starts compared to just 9.8 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 13 appearances as a reserve. The 22-year-old is not expected to lose his starting job with Holmgren available, but it'll be difficult for him to find more usage.
A three-year forward out of Santa Clara, Williams was selected by the Thunder with the No. 12 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He was named to the WCC All-Conference First Team last year, averaging 18.0 points on 51/40/81 shooting, 4.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 34.8 minutes. Williams has good size - 6-foot-6, 209 pounds - but isn't an explosive athlete and only recently became a go-to player, so it could take him a bit to adjust to the NBA. Positively, he's a proven three-point shooter and has an excellent feel for the game. While his destiny may be primarily a role player, his on-the-ball talent - albeit at a mid-major - gives him the sort of upside searched for by OKC. He projects as a rotation player out of the gate, so there's reason for fantasy managers in deep leagues to consider him late. However, he's still competing against the Thunder's other prospects for reserve minutes.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Strong case for All-Star nod
FOklahoma City Thunder
January 17, 2025
Williams has a strong case to be named an All-Star this season, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Entering Thursday's action, Williams held averages of 20.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game for the Thunder, who have been one of the best teams in the league all season long. If Williams is named to the All-Star Game, he'd become the second player of the 2022 draft class to do so after Paolo Banchero was named to the 2024 All-Star Game. For what it's worth, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder's star player, believes Williams is worthy of the honor. "For our team to be as good as we've been, obviously coming up on the All-Star Game, I think it'd only be right for him to be an All-Star," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "You don't have this record because of one All-Star. You don't have this record because of one good player."
