Cruises as massive favorite
WelterweightUFC
November 9, 2024
Zaleski dos Santos defeated Zach Scroggin via TKO (punches) at 1:15 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Set to turn 38 years of age in a handful of days, Zaleski dos Santos had less than nothing to gain by agreeing to face a debuting fighter on just days' notice, but he did, and went out and dominated as a -900 favorite. The Brazilian quickly cornered Scroggin just over a minute in and unloaded a few power shots which closed the show in an instant. Zaleski dos Santos has quietly racked up a 4-1-1 record in his past six fights dating back to October 2021. He has a unanimous decision win over Benoit Saint-Denis during that stretch. Expect ZDS to try to get back in the octagon as soon as possible considering how little damage he absorbed this evening.

Gets new opponent
WelterweightUFC
November 5, 2024
Zaleski will no longer face Nicolas Dalby and will instead take on Zach Scroggin in a welterweight bout at a UFC event on Nov. 9, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Zaleski will get a new opponent on short notice, and it's one versus whom he should be heavily favored. Scroggin has never fought in a UFC bout before, while Zaleski holds a career record of 10-4-1 in the promotion. Most recently, Zaleski lost via unanimous decision against Randy Brown back in June.
Indefinite medical suspension
WelterweightUFC
June 4, 2024
Zaleski has been given an indefinite medical suspension by the New Jersey State Athletic Board following Saturday's UFC 302 loss to Randy Brown, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Zaleski needs to be cleared by an ophthalmologist before he can fight again, which suggests an eye/orbital bone injury. That's not too surprising considering 50 of Brown's 67 significant strikes landed were to the head of Zaleski dos Santos. It may end up pushing his next fight to the end of 2024 or later.
Gives valiant effort in loss
WelterweightUFC
June 1, 2024
Zaleski dos Santos lost to Randy Brown via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark.
ANALYSIS
The deck was stacked against Zaleski dos Santos in this one, as he had to overcome a significant height and reach advantage to get on the inside. After largely failing in Round 1, the Brazilian got his chance in the second frame when a winging right hand connected and allowed him to grab the clinch. "Capoeira" took Brown's back from here, but a late reversal by "Rude Boy" ensured no finish would occur. The chance never came again, as Zaleski dos Santos was largely picked apart from the outside in the final frame. While he will likely never compete for a title, Zaleski dos Santos remains a tricky opponent for anyone, thanks to his athleticism and grappling ability. He should be a mainstay in the UFC for as long as he wants to continue in the sport. The veteran fell to 24-8 in professional MMA due to the loss.

Late surge salvages draw
WelterweightUFC
November 4, 2023
Zaleski dos Santos and Rinat Fakhretdinov fought to a majority draw (28-29, 28-28, 28-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Zaleski dos Santos was nearly knocked out just seconds into this fight. When you take that into consideration, anything other than a loss seems like a victory for ZDS. That said, he had Fakhretdinov in so much trouble late following a beautiful liver shot that it's extremely disappointing the Brazilian wasn't able to earn the late stoppage. First it appeared as if he would be able to knock Rinat out with unanswered blows to the side of the head, at which point Zaleski dos Santos transitioned to a potential submission. Neither were successful. Elizeu is less than two weeks shy of his 37th birthday, so time is running out, but this late surge shows there's some gas left in the tank.
