Delgado up next
Matthews will fight Jose Miguel Delgado at UFC Vegas 102 on Feb. 15, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
After taking a loss in his UFC debut at the hands of Dennis Buzukja, Matthews will now look to bounce back and play the spoiler in Delgado's debut. However, momentum will be in Delgado's favor, as he has won each of his last five professional bouts.

Finished in UFC debut
Matthews lost to Dennis Buzukja via TKO (punches) at 0:22 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Atlantic City.
ANALYSIS
Matthews earned his UFC opportunity with a brawling victory on Dana White's Contender Series last October. He attempted to go that same route here against Buzukja in his official company debut and wasn't successful. He was outworked in what was primarily a kickboxing match before getting finished for good early in Round 3. The Massachusetts native seems likely to get another chance inside the Octagon, but little should be expected after this performance.

Debuting versus Buzukja

ANALYSIS
Matthews secured a UFC contract after defeating Jair Farias in a Contender Series bout in October. Matthews' opponent has lost two straight fights since joining the UFC, giving the 31-year-old a good chance at starting off strong.

Brawls skillfully to earn contract
Matthews defeated Jair Farias via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Matthews looked great for the first nine minutes of the bout, walking down his opponent and peppering him with jabs, while also firing head kicks and wrestling to mix things up. The forward pressure seemed to operate on diminishing returns, however, as it resulted in "The Controller" getting tagged and losing steam in Round 3. Nevertheless, Matthews has a nice compliment of skills and is big for the weight class. If he can refine a few things, he could be someone to take seriously in the featherweight division.
