2024 Fantasy Outlook
It's difficult to get excited about Coulibaly when looking at his statistics, but people in Washington have been raving about the former top-10 pick. Some have compared him to Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that seems dramatic at this point. After struggling the first few weeks, Coulibaly averaged 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.7 blocks and 1.0 threes across 28 minutes over his final 55 games. None of those numbers jump off the page, but few players provide value in every category like that. Coulibaly is also supposed to be an elite defender, and it'll be interesting to see the 20-year-old wing play over 30 minutes for a rebuilding Washington team. It remains to be seen if Coulibaly will start. Alex Sarr and Kyle Kuzma are projected to start at the forward spots. That's a frustrating development for such a talented youngster, but Coulibaly should still have plenty of developmental opportunities. There's also some thought that Kuzma will be traded at some point, which could move Coulibaly right into a 35-minute role as a starter. The young wing could be a top-50 player with that role combined with his nine-category potential, making Coulibaly an enticing late-round flier at the end of drafts. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Bilal Coulibaly is a teammate of super prospect Victor Wembenyama, joining his fellow Frenchman on Metropolitans 92 of France's LNB Pro A. Coulibaly is an 18-year-old wing with great athleticism, impressive hops and defensive upside. He's been an established name on France's FIBA youth squads and European Championship U18 team. Coulibaly did not attend the NBA Combine due to the Metropolitans 92 being amid a playoff run. He was a late addition to the 2023 draft cycle, with some believing he would declare in 2024 instead. Coulibaly is a difference-maker around the rim, moving well without the ball, pouncing on offensive rebounds and attacking the rim whenever possible. He pairs this explosiveness with good shooting in a small sample size, connecting on 43.8 percent of 38 three-point attempts this season. Most of those attempts were spot-up looks, and Coulibaly's self-creation and scoring polish is still a work in progress in the half-court. Defense is where he's been making the most impact. Pairing his athleticism with his size, Coulibaly could be a massive disruptor in switching schemes. Defense will keep Coulibaly on the floor as a rookie, especially with his energy and versatility. It's unlikely he'll be tasked to make plays on offense, and his shooting is unproven, but he's an active cutter and can explode to the rim. His shooting development will ultimately determine an NBA comparison, but until we know more, Tari Eason shares similarities.

March 13, 2025
The Wizards announced Thursday that Coulibaly will be out approximately 4-to-6 due to a right hamstring injury, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Coulibaly had already been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Pistons due to what the Wizards had labeled as a right hip contusion, but a more significant hamstring strain will keep him off the floor for an extended period. Considering that the Wizards are already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, Coulibaly would seem highly unlikely to play again this season. While Coulibaly is shut down, Bub Carrington, Justin Champagnie and Corey Kispert are candidates to receive increased playing time. Coulibaly had started in all 59 of his appearances during his second NBA season, averaging 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.1 three-pointers and 0.7 blocks in 33.0 minutes per contest.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Coulibaly was teammate of super prospect Victor Wembenyama on Metropolitans 92 of France's LNB Pro A. Coulibaly is an 18-year-old wing with great athleticism and impressive defensive capabilities. He's a difference-maker around the rim, moving well without the ball, pouncing on offensive rebounds and attacking the rim whenever possible. His shooting needs work, connecting on 33.6 percent of 119 three-point attempts and 70.5 percent of 173 free throws last season. Most of those threes were spot-up looks, and Coulibaly's self-creation and scoring polish is still a work in progress in the half-court. Defense is where he's been making the most impact, and he averaged 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks in 24.0 minutes. Pairing his athleticism with his size, Coulibaly could be a massive disruptor in switching schemes. Defense will keep Coulibaly on the floor as a rookie, especially with his energy and versatility. His Summer League performance was a mixed bag, but he improved as the games went along. His shooting was an issue, unsurprisingly, but he had nine blocks and two steals in four games. Coulibaly could end up being a project offensively, but the Wizards project to be one of the NBA's worst teams, and there should be plenty of developmental minutes available.

Will attend Rising Stars
FWashington Wizards
January 29, 2025
The NBA announced Tuesday that Coulibaly was selected to the Rising Stars Game.
ANALYSIS
There haven't been many positives in Washington with the team sitting in last place in the Eastern Conference with a 6-39 record, but Coulibaly has been an obvious bright spot. Playing in his second NBA season, Coulibaly has been breaking out with averages of 12.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.8 blocks in 41 appearances. He's already an impact defender, but he's still a work-in-progress shooter -- he's hitting 26.6 percent from beyond the arc.
