DraftKings NHL: Monday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

There are five games tonight because the matchup between Vegas and San Jose has been postponed because of COVID-19 concerns among the Golden Knights. Many big names are floating around in this slate, including the Penguins, Rangers, Bruins and Capitals. Both the Bruins and the Rangers will be heavily targeted in this article, and the Lightning get their fair share of ink as well. However, digging deep is vital for DFS tournaments, so there are plenty of value plays to help differentiate your lineup.

GOALIES

Andrei Vasilevskiy, TB vs. NAS ($8,400): Steady as ever, Vasilevskiy has started hot with a 4-1-1 record and a .925 save percentage. The Vezina winner's play has been outstanding in its own right, and the consistent offensive support is a plus. The Predators are a favorable matchup, too, as they rank 23rd in the league with 1.96 xGF/60.

Carey Price, MON vs. VAN ($8,200): Price has held opponents to two or fewer goals in three of the last four games, posting a 3-0-1 record in that stretch. The skaters in front of him deserve a bunch of credit, too, as the Habs have one of the best defensive teams in the league, sitting fourth in the league with just 1.79 xGA/60.

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG vs. CGY ($7,900): This season hasn't lived up to last year's Vezina-winning campaign, but he's still been one of Winnipeg's most valuable players, registering a .910 save percentage thus far. The Flames have played a low-scoring style this season, and they're 3-3-1 and have scored more than three goals in a game just once.

VALUE PLAYS

Tyler Toffoli, MON vs. VAN ($5,900): It's already time for another Toffoli Revenge Game? Awesome. The 28-year-old racked up five goals and two assists over three matchups against the Canucks this season, firing 13 shots on net in the process.

Pavel Buchnevich, NYR vs. PIT ($5,300): Buchnevich has earned an extra three minutes of ice time over last season, logging 20:09 per game. He continues to capitalize with seven points through eight games, and the Penguins injury-riddled blue line should make his night easier.

Anthony Cirelli, TB vs. NSH ($4,800): Cirelli remains an underrated asset for the Lightning, driving offense on the top line, dishing out five assists and lighting the lamp once through six games. He continues to shower the net with pucks, and Nashville's abysmal PK should open the door further.

Craig Smith, BOS at WAS ($3,900): Smith should get work on the second line because both Jake DeBrusk (lower body) and Ondrej Kase (upper body) have been ruled out. The 31-year-old sniper has plenty left in the tank. He's still shooting more than three times per game, and he would've reached 20 goals for the sixth time in seven seasons if it wasn't for the shortened campaign.

Nils Hoglander, VAN at MON ($3,600): Hoglander has excellent vision and the skills to back it up, and his game is coming together faster than expected. The 20-year-old has produced five points over the past six games. Price can be tough to crack, but rolling the dice at this price is worth it.

Jason Zucker, PIT at NYR ($3,300): Zucker's starting to get back on track. He's up to his usual tricks and has posted three points in as many games. Skating on the second line with Evgeni Malkin and the second power-play unit, he should get plenty of chances, especially against the Blueshirts' 24th-ranked PK (75.0 percent).

LINE STACKS

Bruins at Capitals

Patrice Bergeron (C - $7,800), Brad Marchand (W - $7,700), Pastrnak (W - $7,800)

"The Perfection Line" is back together after Pastrnak returned from a hip injury, and they were back to their dominant ways with five total points in Saturday's loss to the Caps. They'll get a rematch here, and any lingering rust will be knocked off Pastrnak's shoulders. Look for the trio to hone in on the power play, as Washington ranks 22nd with a 76.8 penalty-kill percentage.

Lightning vs. Predators

Brayden Point (C - $7,000), Steven Stamkos (W - $7,900), Ondrej Palat (W - $5,100)

The trio has racked up 18 points through the first six games, eight of which came with the man advantage. They're generating 3.09 xGF/60 at even strength, and they simply dominate the offensive zone with three capable shooters keeping defenders' heads spinning. Much like the B's, the man advantage should be their forte, as the Preds sit last with a 63.6 penalty-kill percentage.

DEFENSEMEN

Jeff Petry, MON vs. VAN ($6,100): Petry looks on track to have his best season yet in his age-33 campaign, as he's accrued eight points -- four on the power play -- in eight games. His play on the man advantage has extra value versus Vancouver's struggling PK (79.6 percent).

Adam Fox, NYR vs. PIT ($6,000): Fox is in a three-game point drought, but things are looking up. Anthony DeAngelo's ousting means Fox will return to the top power-play unit, and he's already been averaging 24:09 of ice time per game. His chances on the man advantage should be plentiful with Pittsburgh's PK landing at 25th in the league (74.2 percent)

Charlie McAvoy, BOS at WAS ($4,900): McAvoy continues to grow into his game, and the 23-year-old looks comfortable as the top B's defenseman now that Torey Krug and Zdeno Chara are gone. He's tacked on seven points over four games, and the vulnerability of Washington's defense remains in this matchup.

Mikhail Sergachev, TB vs. NSH ($3,700): Sergachev doesn't get time on the top power play, but the second unit is still among the best in the league. Furthermore, Nashville's putrid PK remains a liability no matter who's on the ice.

John Marino, PIT at NYR ($2,500): Marino finally notched his first point of the year in the ninth game of the year. He started slowly in his rookie season as well before accumulating 25 points over the final 42 games. Now, injuries have torched the blue line, so Marino should be locked into 25 minutes Monday.
