Tournament Preview

The Andalucia Valderrama Masters returns to The European Tour this week. It was last played in 2011. The Sergio Garcia Foundation is hosting the event this year and will ensure a loaded field of golfers. This is only the third time the tournament is being contested, but The Open de Espana was played at Valderrama last year and will be used as additional course history. Real Club Valderrama is a challenging shorter course, with narrow cork tree-lined fairways and small undulating greens. Water appears on only three holes, but bunkers are plentiful. Accuracy, course management and getting out of the sand will be at a premium this week.

DraftKings Picks

Soren Kjeldsen $10,200 (18/1)

Kjeldsen is a master of the short, ball-striking course. His results at Real Club Valderrama have been very good, as he was T4 last year at Open de Espana and finished as high as T2 in the two times he has played this tournament. Kjeldsen comes in well rested, and finished T23 at Made in Denmark at the end of August. He is a superb ball-striker and one of the best on tour at sand saves.

Maximilian Kieffer $8,100 (55/1)

Kieffer checks all the boxes — he is fifth in driving accuracy, 37th in GIR and eighth in sand saves on tour. He's also entering the tournament feeling good about his game after finishing T15 last week at the Italian Open. Kieffer played here last year at Open de Espana and ended T29, so he should be a solid play in the middle tier.

Nino Bertasio $7,300 (50/1)

The Italian arrives in Spain in spectacular form. He has been T15 or better in three of his last four starts and has experience here. Bertasio finished T11 last year at Open de Espana and is looking to build off of that. At times he can be sporadic off the tee, but his iron game is top notch. He is hitting over 68 percent of greens in regulation and can make his way out of the bunkers, too, so I expect his high finishes to continue.

Gregory Bourdy $7,100 (33/1)

I see great value here at only $7,100 since the France native enters this week's event with good momentum. Bourdy was T30 last week at Italian Open and was T4 the week prior at Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. His stats are pointing to another top spot on the leaderboard this week — he's 16th in driving accuracy, 11th in GIR and 28th in sand saves. Bourdy was T19 here at Open de Espana last year, too, and seems like a must-play given the price and odds.
