2024 Fantasy Outlook
Over the first two years of his pro career, Thornton, a 2022 second-rounder, has had trouble staying on the field and been limited to 35 catches in 22 contests. With an eye toward holding up better, the 6-2, 185-pounder sought to bulk up ahead of this season. Thornton's speed remains his calling card, and that's what could help him stick around if he has a strong summer under the tutelage of new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. On the plus side, Thornton, 24, figures to have a clean slate with the team's new coaching staff, but the Baylor product has plenty of competition for targets in a crowded wideout corps that lacks a clear pecking order ahead of training camp. RANKS
Limited role Sunday
Thornton logged 13 of a possible 64 snaps on offense in Sunday's 30-13 loss to the 49ers, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Thornton failed to catch his only target Sunday, and was out-snapped in the contest by Ja'Lynn Polk (53), K.J. Osborn (42), DeMario Douglas (38) and even Kayshon Boutte (15). With Kendrick Bourne (knee) progressing toward a return to action soon, Thornton's path to fantasy relevance is getting increasingly narrow.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
The Patriots traded up for Thornton in the second round of the 2022 Draft, but he was largely a complementary piece in New England's receiving corps as a rookie, with Jakobi Meyers, DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor also in the mix. Now that Meyers (Las Vegas) and Agholor (Baltimore) are elsewhere, Thornton should improve on last year's numbers - 22-247-2 line on 45 targets in 13 games - given the likelihood that he'll see increased volume alongside the two key holdovers and newcomer JuJu Smith-Schuster. Thornton has a slight frame at 6-2, 182 pounds, but he recorded a 4.28-second 40-yard dash during last year's combine, and with wheels like that, he has a chance to make his mark as a deep threat in 2023.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
On trading block
The Patriots have informed teams that Thornton is on the table for a trade, Jason La Canforna of the Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Thornton played 68 snaps on offense over the first two games of the regular season, but he's seen the field for just 27 snaps over the Patriots' last two games. He's been held to two catches on five targets for 27 yards, and he hasn't caught a pass since the regular-season opener against the Bengals. The Patriots selected Thornton in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but he's accumulated just 37 catches on 73 targets for 365 yards and two touchdowns, and he hasn't caught a touchdown since his rookie season. Perhaps a change in scenery would be best for the 24-year-old wide receiver out of Baylor.
