Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
A second-round pick, Shough (pronounced “shuck”) was the third QB selected in this year’s draft. He was plagued by injuries in his seven-year college career, finally staying healthy enough last season to throw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns at Louisville. He completed only 62.7 percent of his passes, making accuracy a concern, especially downfield. At 6-foot-5, 219 pounds, Shough has good size with a strong arm and solid mechanics, but he's not as mobile as his 4.61 40 might seem to suggest. He’ll also turn 26 a few weeks into the season, which likely limits his room for growth. Even so, he’s the probable Week 1 starter after Derek Carr abruptly retired in May. The Saints likely will look into signing a veteran, as Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener were the only QBs on the roster at the time of Carr's retirement. If Shough finds himself under center, he’ll have a few good receiving options, namely Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Alvin Kamara likely will handle a lot of the workload for new head coach Kellen Moore, who likes to lean on his running backs, confining Shough to a game-manager role. Read Past Outlooks

First NFL action in garbage time
Shough failed to complete either of his pass attempts in Sunday's 44-13 loss to Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Shough got his first taste of the pros when he took over for Spencer Rattler on New Orleans' final drive in garbage time Sunday. The 2025 second-round pick failed to complete either of his pass attempts in the brief outing. This wasn't a changing of the guard, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Shough take over at some point this season if the Saints continue stacking losses under Rattler.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Still in mix for 2025 starts
Coach Kellen Moore said he is evaluating the quarterback position on a week-to-week basis on Monday and suggested Shough could start at some point this season, Katherine Terrell of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Moore is sticking with Spencer Rattler as his starter in the short term, but the coach is facing a growing number of questions about the position. Rattler turned the ball over four times in a Week 7 loss to the Bears, which prompted Moore to admit that an evaluation is ongoing. It would seem logical that the team would want to get a look at Shough, whom they selected 40th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, as they look to be in line for a top-five pick in 2026 and could draft another quarterback if they don't believe the current solution at the position is on the roster.
