2025 Fantasy Outlook
Diggs suffered an ACL tear in late October, one month before his 31st birthday, yet still did reasonably well in free agency with a three-year, $63.5 million contract. It's a lot of money for a player who was already in decline before the severe injury, although only 26 percent ($16.6 million) is guaranteed at signing. Diggs averaged 5.9 catches and 8.0 targets per game during his abbreviated 2024 season in Houston, but with his fewest yards per game (62.0) since 2017 and his lowest marks since 2018 for yards per catch (10.6) and aDOT (8.3). He was never a top YAC threat even in his prime, and the combination of already-waning speed and a late-career knee surgery suggest Diggs won't do much damage on deep balls moving forward. The good news is that there should be plenty of short and intermediate targets for the taking if he comes back at something like 90 percent of his pre-injury form, as the Patriots otherwise have one of the league's least-accomplished WR rooms to support aspiring franchise quarterback Drake Maye. Practicing without knee brace
Diggs (ACL) participated in on-field work in uniform and without a brace on his right knee at Day 3 of OTAs on Thursday, Taylor Kyles of CLNSMedia.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Patriots' photo release of OTAs reveals Diggs looking healthy and without any apparent hindrances related to his right knee, in which he suffered a torn right ACL on Oct. 27. While the 31-year-old wideout likely still has some hurdles to overcome in his rehab before being cleared for contact, his ability to get in some on-field work at voluntary OTAs lends further optimism to the notion he'll be a full-go for Week 1. Since signing Diggs to a three-year, $69 million deal in free agency, New England added a speedy vertical threat to the wide receiver room in the form of third-round pick Kyle Williams, plus a capable pass catcher in the backfield in second-rounder TreVeyon Henderson. Those additions don't represent huge threats to Diggs' position as the clear top target for second-year quarterback Drake Maye, health permitting, but Henderson and Williams are explosive options that this offense had otherwise been lacking in that regard with incumbent wideouts DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Kendrick Bourne, Mack Hollins, Ja'Lynn Polk (shoulder) and Javon Baker.

Viewed as one of the safest options on draft boards at this time last year, Diggs had become one of the more polarizing players for 2024 even before the Bills traded him to Houston in early April. He's now looking at top-notch target competition from Texans WRs Nico Collins and Tank Dell, after a mega-slump in the second half of 2023 left Diggs with his worst season-long stat line in four years with the Bills. His nosedive was unexpected, given that the first nine weeks of 2023 were perhaps the most productive stretch of his career (7.8 catches for 92.7 yards and 0.78 TDs on 10.8 targets). The rest of the Bills offense disappointed, however, so the team fired OC Ken Dorsey after Week 10 and replaced him with Joe Brady. Including the playoffs, Diggs had one TD in nine games under Brady and just two performances of more than 52 yards. His 27.3 percent target share in that stretch was ninth in the league and right in line with his 2020-22 usage, but the efficiency nosedived (5.2 YPT) and Buffalo ran the ball more often. That last part shouldn't be an issue in Houston with QB C.J. Stroud now surrounded by arguably the best group of pass catchers in the league. Even so, Diggs is looking at a major plunge in team share stats and is unlikely to match his 10-target-per-game Buffalo usage even if he's taking his slice from a huge passing-game pie. The Texans have TE Dalton Schultz and RB Joe Mixon projecting for a decent number of targets, in addition to Diggs, Dell and Collins competing for the WR looks.

Vrabel addresses video
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel addressed a controversial video of Diggs on Wednesday that made the rounds on social media Tuesday, but he stressed any conversations between him and the star receiver would be kept private, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A video that showed Diggs, who is still in the process of recovering from the torn ACL he suffered while playing for the Texans in 2024, on a boat passing a bag containing what appeared to be a pink substance to three women surfaced on social media Tuesday, and Vrabel was unsurprisingly asked multiple questions about it before Wednesday's OTA session. Vrabel confirmed the team was aware of the video and stressed that "we want to make great decisions on and off the field" while also noting he's been in communication with Diggs. The NFL declined comment on the matter, but the league will ultimately determine if the situation constitutes any violation of its Personal Conduct Policy.
