2024 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson was a good backup to Bijan Robinson at Texas and figures to settle in as a backup at the NFL level as well. The combination of special teams value and solid pass blocking might even allow Johnson to real-life value relative to the fourth-round pick Chicago spent on him last spring, but he's less promising for fantasy due to subpar speed (4.58 40) and agility. Johnson is also less powerful than one might expect of a 220-pound running back, and he'll have to compete with Khalil Herbert for backup reps behind new starter D'Andre Swift. Regardless of depth chart standing, Johnson and Herbert would figure to split snaps if Swift were to miss games because of an injury. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Five touches in defeat
Johnson rushed three times for 13 yards and caught three passes for eight yards in the Bears' 29-9 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
After averaging 10 touches between Weeks 3 and 5, Johnson's role has been scaled back. In the last three games, the running back has handled a total of 12 touches for 60 yards and one touchdown. Johnson is likely to function in a low-volume role as long as D'Andre Swift continues to play well.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the star of Week 9, leading the league in fantasy points and air yards despite taking nearly all of his snaps in the slot. RW's Jerry Donabedian has the full breakdown from Sunday.
RW's Jerry Donabedian expects Josh Downs to pile up targets with the Colts turning back to Joe Flacco against a zone-heavy, blitz-heavy Minnesota defense.
Tyrone Tracy solidified his standing as the leader in Big Blue's backfield, but now a concussion has him uncertain for Week 9.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
A fourth-round pick in this year's draft, Johnson didn't play much behind Bijan Robinson at Texas but did well as a seldom-used backup RB and key special teamer. The rookie is probably a better fit for passing downs than veterans Khalil Herbert or D'Onta Foreman, which could offer an early path to snaps on offense. The 6-foot, 219-pound Johnson is probably the worst pure runner of the bunch, and offseason signing Travis Homer can at least match Johnson on passing downs (a task Homer handled in Seattle in between injuries). If nothing else, Johnson's special-teams acumen should allow him to stay on the roster and develop, which could lead to playing time if the veterans ahead of him don't stay healthy.

Underrated on star-laden offense
Johnson is a member of a star-studded Bears offense that is being overlooked going into the 2024 season, Tom Blair of NFL.com opines.
ANALYSIS
Blair recognizes that Johnson is notably down the pecking order of the Bears' noteworthy array of skill-position players, a group that now includes Johnson's new backfield mate D'Andre Swift. Johnson already offered glimpses of his potential last season as a rookie while compiling 561 total yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns, and Blair notes Swift's production seemed to wane down the stretch last season with the Eagles, when he logged a career-high 268 touches.
