Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
In the last four seasons, Smith has never finished lower than sixth in the league in total tackles. In large part, that consistency has been due to Smith's ability to stay on the field. After being banged up for parts of his first two years in the league with the Bears, he has turned in four consecutive seasons with over 1,000 total snaps. During his first full season in Baltimore in 2023, Smith was also asked to take on additional responsibility as a cover linebacker. He played a career-high 649 snaps in coverage (per PFF) and responded by breaking up a career-best seven passes. Heading into 2024, Smith will remain the centerpiece of the Ravens' defense, though he will face a new challenge of not having Patrick Queen lining up alongside him. Smith will likely be asked to take on even more as a result, which could increase his production so long as the Baltimore defensive line plays well enough to occupy opposing offensive linemen in order to keep him clean. Decent showing in loss
Smith recorded eight tackles (five solo) during Sunday's 29-24 loss at Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Smith has recorded at least seven tackles in all but one of the Ravens' eight games so far in 2024, so Sunday was more or less a normal day at the office for him. His 82 tackles so far this season are second in the league only to Zaire Franklin (87). He's an elite IDP option in most formats going into a Week 9 tilt versus the Broncos.

The Bears decided to deal Smith for draft picks rather than pay him what he wanted, but the Ravens were more than happy to take on that burden, snapping him up just before Halloween last year and then handing the linebacker a five-year, $100 million extension in January. Smith's play never flagged, and he topped 160 tackles for the second consecutive season, 83 in eight games with Chicago and 86 in nine for Baltimore. The 26-year-old rounded out his elite production with 4.5 sacks and a career-high three interceptions, and his athleticism and instincts are a perfect fit in John Harbaugh's scheme.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Contract demands led to trade
The Bears decided to trade Smith because they were not confident they could find common ground in contract talks during the offseason, Courtney Cronin of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith and the Bears entered the season on rocky terms, as he demanded a trade and conducted a hold-in during training camp before ultimately returning to practice. General manager Ryan Poles told the media that the two sides continued to negotiate after that, with the team's last offer coming one week prior to the season. Rather than risk losing Smith for nothing, Poles opted to deal him for a package of draft picks.
