2025 Fantasy Outlook
A year ago someone might have sooner figured Gordon a first-round pick than a sixth-round pick, but things can change quickly for collegiate running back prospects, especially when their numbers fall like they did for Gordon between 2023 and 2024. The sixth-round pick out of Oklahoma State was a veritable Heisman candidate in 2023, running for 1,732 yards and 21 touchdowns at 6.1 yards per carry, but in 2024 those figures fell to 880 yards and 13 touchdowns at 4.6 yards per carry. Those numbers aren't so bad if you split the difference, but the gap between those two years will always be jarring. At 6-foot-1, 226, Gordon has a somewhat prolonged stride which can trip him up when his offensive line gets caved in, but once he picks up momentum Gordon can quickly become a concerning proposition for a squared-up defender. Gordon can produce a heavy anchor to bowl over defenders, especially when he has some velocity to channel into the collision. When Gordon can pave over the second line of defense he becomes a big-play threat against defenders who generally aren't built to bring him down. Gordon has a steep hill to climb but clearly has some amount of talent to work with, and as a power specialist he clearly stands out relative to smallish burners like De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright. Best RB again in preseason win
Gordon rushed 10 times for 50 yards during Miami's 24-17 preseason win over Detroit on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Gordon has looked like the Dolphins' best running back in two consecutive preseason matchups, with his performance Saturday having been vastly superior to Jaylen Wright's four carries for three yards. Head coach Mike McDaniel said Saturday that De'Von Achane (lower body) has a soft-tissue injury, and though he said the starting running back's issue isn't serious, that should provide a window for Gordon and Wright to handle the bulk of first-team reps for the immediate future, as well as potentially start the team's preseason finale against Jacksonville next Saturday. The Dolphins recently placed Alexander Mattison (neck) on season-ending IR due to an injury sustained in the exhibition opener, paving an easier path for one of Gordon or Wright to secure the No. 2 backfield role.

Competition thinning
Gordon's path to claiming the Dolphins' goal-line role got clearer after Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports that Alexander Mattison has undergone season-ending neck surgery.
ANALYSIS
Gordon was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 Draft and immediately became the most physical of Miami's backfield options, but Mattison's experience made him a threat to win the short-yardage role prior to his campaign ending prematurely. Jaylen Wright, a speedy big-play back, is also in the mix for snaps and touches behind starter De'Von Achane, but if the Dolphins are serious about reducing the punishment Achane might take between the tackles, Gordon appears to represent the best alternative.
