Josiah Deguara

28-Year-Old Tight EndTE
Arizona Cardinals
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Joining his third team in as many seasons, Deguara is coming off a 2024 campaign in which he hauled in all three targets for 14 yards and no TDs while playing the majority of his snaps on special teams in 15 games for the Jaguars. The Cardinals aren't shy about using 12 personnel, with 2024 third-rounder Tip Reiman and Elijah Higgins earning at least a 38 percent snap share behind No. 1 TE Trey McBride's 89.3 last year. Nevertheless, Deguara has a hill to climb for a regular role. Read Past Outlooks

Arizona signed Deguara on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Deguara was cut by the Cardinals on Tuesday, but with the passing of the trade deadline, he'll rejoin the 53-man roster just one day later. He'll serve as a depth tight end and should have a role on special teams for the Cardinals in this Sunday's game in Seattle.

How often does Josiah Deguara run a route when on the field for a pass play?
This data will let you see how Josiah Deguara and the other tight ends for the Cardinals are being used. Some tight ends may have a lot of snaps, but they're not that useful for fantasy purposes because they're not actually running routes. This data will help you see when this is the case.

2020
Deguara never lived up to his pedigree as a 2020 third-round pick for the Packers, and he'll continue his career with the Jaguars in 2024. The 27-year-old had minor involvement in the passing game during the 2023 season with eight catches for 65 yards, and that's unlikely to change this season with Evan Engram entrenched as Jacksonville's starting tight end. Deguara will be competing with Brenton Strange and Luke Farrell for backup slotting.
A third-round pick in the 2020 Draft, Deguara is entering his fourth season with the Packers. After making only two appearances as a rookie due to injuries, he suited up for all but one contest over the last two years. However, he racked up more than 40 yards in a game just three times. Deguara will have a prime opportunity to make a mark in 2023, as no tight end on the roster has more career receptions (39). With the Packers drafting tight ends in both the second (Luke Musgrave) and third rounds (Tucker Kraft) of this year's draft, though, there isn't a lack of competition.
After missing nearly all of his rookie season with a knee injury, Deguara appeared in all but one game a year ago. He opened the campaign in a bit role, but when fellow tight end Robert Tonyan went down with a knee injury of his own, Deguara's snap count went up, and he even started a couple games. Deguara didn'tt do a lot in the passing game, but he did score two long touchdowns, indicating he's more than just a blocker. The Packers' tight end room will look almost exactly like it did last season, though it's unclear when Tonyan will be ready to go. Deguara isn't primed to make a major leap, but he was taken in the third round in the 2020 Draft, so he figures to continue getting opportunities.
Deguara's selection in the third round raised some eyebrows among draftniks, but it was revealed afterward that coach Matt LaFleur is a big fan. He doesn't possess an elite skill, but he's good at a lot of things, and LaFleur and the Packers are planning to utilize that. Deguara is listed as a tight end, but it's expected he will be used in an H-back role, lining up in multiple spots on the field. It's a role that's unlikely to make him much of a fantasy factor but should get him on the field plenty.

Headed for No. 1 tight end duties?
TEGreen Bay Packers
March 16, 2023
Deguara currently sits atop the Packers tight end depth chart with Robert Tonyan having agreed to a one-year deal with the Bears on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Tonyan is now officially out of Deguara's path to the top job, while 18-year veteran Marcedes Lewis isn't expected back. That leaves Deguara at the top of the depth chart at this point in the offseason, although there could naturally be competition brought in via the draft or free agency. A 2020 third-round pick who recorded 77 receptions for 972 yards and 12 touchdowns over his last two college seasons at Cincinnati, Deguara appeared to be on the way to similar production with Green Bay when he generated a 25-245-2 line over 16 games in 2021. However, the 26-year-old took a step back last season, posting 13 grabs for 114 yards across 17 games while logging only 15 targets overall.
