2019
Over the course of 16 games (three with the Texans and 13 with the Browns) last season, the 29-year-old combined for 12 catches for 117 yards. Now that he's with the Colts, Brown is competing for depth slotting in a crowded tight end corps that also includes Jelani Woods, Kylen Granson, Mo Alie-Cox and Will Mallory.
Brown returns for another season with the Texans after recording 23 catches on 34 targets for 171 yards in 2021, setting career highs in all three categories. His blocking ability gets him on the field and creates chances as a receiver. However, if the Texans are going to involve a tight end in the passing offense, the primary target figures to be Brevin Jordan. The second-year tight end, who was a healthy scratch for the first half of his rookie 2021 season, was granted a healthy dose of playing time following the bye week and became a red-zone target while catching three touchdowns over nine games.
Brown made the 53-man roster out of training camp in 2019 and spent the entire season there. He was among several tight ends to benefit from David Njoku's wrist injury, but he was the least targeted of the bunch. Once Njoku returned, Brown became a healthy scratch from Week 12 on. There's a crowd at tight end, and Brown is at best fourth on the depth chart.
Brown started the 2018 season on the Browns' practice squad before getting promoted to their active roster about halfway through the year. He ultimately landed on the IR with a shoulder injury. He finds himself once again competing for a spot on Cleveland's 53-man roster, and will need to make an impression at camp in order to earn a role with the team.
