Jake Browning

29-Year-Old QuarterbackQB
Cincinnati Bengals
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Browning's 2023 performance when Joe Burrow was injured gave him a new lease on his professional life, but Burrow remained healthy for the entirety of the 2024 season, limiting Browning to just five snaps and zero pass attempts. When we last saw Browning on the field, he struggled on occasion with the deep ball and against a good pass rush, though how many backup quarterbacks don't struggle against a good pass rush? Because he sits on such valuable backup quarterback real estate, Browning is still roster-worthy in select super flex formats, particularly now that both Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are signed for the long term. Uninspiring performance in loss
QBCincinnati Bengals
September 29, 2025
Browning completed 14 of 25 passes for 125 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions while adding three rushes for four yards in the Bengals' 28-3 loss to the Broncos on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
About the only true positive for Browning in the lopsided loss was that he managed to avoid turning the ball over against a ferocious Broncos defense. Browning took three sacks and averaged only 5.0 yards per attempt, with no Bengals pass catcher managing to exceed 32 receiving yards. Browning has completed just 63.4 percent of his passes and posted a 1:2 TD:INT over his first two full games as a starter, so it remains to be seen if head coach Zac Taylor considers a change to fellow backup Brett Rypien for a Week 5 home matchup against the Lions.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
An undrafted free agent in 2019, Browning got his first taste of NFL action early last year and then became the starter Week 12 after Joe Burrow was lost to season-ending injury. Safe to say, Browning exceeded expectations, keeping the Bengals in the playoff hunt until late in the year and leading the league in completion percentage (70.4). It was almost entirely built on short passes, though. Just 7.8 percent of his attempts were deeper than 20 yards, 28th in the league, and his average target depth was a mere 6.4 yards (31st). The only qualified QB lower than that was … Joe Burrow at 6.3 yards. Browning wasn’t corralled because of his lack of arm strength, but because the Bengals offense, for whatever reason, didn’t scheme deep. Browning, in fact, posted a 54.2 on-target percentage on downfield throws (9th). It’s enough to make him an option in two-QB leagues, should Burrow go down again.

Unlikely to get competition
QBCincinnati Bengals
September 22, 2025
The Bengals have not made calls about acquiring a veteran quarterback in the wake of Joe Burrow's toe injury, signaling the team's confidence in Browning as the starter in his place, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
That stance from the organization could change quickly if Browning has another performance like Sunday's, when he threw for just 140 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions in a 48-10 rout at the hands of the Vikings, but for now his job as Burrow's replacement seems secure. The last time Browning was needed for a lengthy stretch came in 2023, and he led the Bengals to a 4-3 record as a starter, finishing the year having completed 70.4 percent of his passes with a 12:7 TD:INT over nine regular-season games. This time around, Burrow is set to miss up to three months after toe surgery.
