Evan Hull

23-Year-Old Running BackRB

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Drafted out of Northwestern in the fifth round last year, Hull saw one carry in Week 1 before suffering a knee injury that ended his rookie season. While he runs with good power and surprising speed, Hull lacks the elusiveness or balance to survive contact consistently, making him best suited for a short-yardage battering ram role between the tackles. With Jonathan Taylor locked into the starting job for the Colts, Hull will battle Trey Sermon for backup snaps, and his goal-line usage could depend on how much the team wants to protect quarterback Anthony Richardson. ANALYSIS
Hull, a 2023 fifth-round pick, was unable to make the Colts' 53-man roster Tuesday, but he'll end up stick around with the Indianapolis organization after clearing waivers. As a rookie, Hull suited up for just one game before going down with a knee injury, but he's familiar with the Colts' offensive scheme and will likely be on the short list for a promotion to the active roster should the team suffer any backfield attrition. At least to open the regular season, however, Trey Sermon (hamstring) and Tyler Goodson will work as the top backups to Jonathan Taylor.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Hull, a 2023 fifth-rounder, has a chance to win a significant role in the backfield during training camp. The Northwestern product was an outstanding receiver out of the backfield with the Wildcats (55 receptions in 2022) and could fill the role of a pass-catching back to complement starter Jonathan Taylor. While Hull had a mundane yards-per-carry figures (4.1 yards per carry), that may be a byproduct of Northwestern's struggles in his senior season since he possesses 4.47 40-yard dash speed. He'll compete with Deon Jackson for the third spot on the Colts' RB depth chart.

Candidate to be claimed
RBFree Agent
August 28, 2024
Hull was waived by the Colts on Tuesday, but James Boyd of The Athletic believes there's a decent chance that another team will claim Hull off waivers.
ANALYSIS
Hull would likely have to settle for a practice squad spot if he goes unclaimed, possibly back in the Colts organization. The 2023 fifth-round draft pick was beaten out by Tyler Goodson for a roster spot in training camp, and Indianapolis opted to keep Trey Sermon as a backup to Jonathan Taylor despite Sermon's hamstring injury.
