2025 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
It's disappointing that Neal fell to the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, especially given how productive he was as a four-year star at Kansas. Neal's skill set seems on par with that of most Day 2 running back picks, and his otherwise mediocre athleticism (4.58-second 40 at 5-foot-11, 213 pounds) doesn't grade poorly enough to negate the quality of his production. Not many players produce like Neal did, running for 4,343 yards (5.7 YPC) and 49 touchdowns in 49 career games at Kansas. Neal showed NFL-level pass-catching ability by adding 77 receptions for 711 yards and four touchdowns on 104 targets (74.0 percent catch rate, 6.8 YPT), so if a three-down role were available there's reason to believe he could do well with it. Alvin Kamara is likely locked into a heavy three-down role for the Saints and 2023 third-round pick Kendre Miller has the talent to emerge as a starting candidate in his own right, but Kamara might be in his last year with the Saints and Miller's durability troubles have left him unavailable for most of the last two years. Saints end draft slide in Round 6
The Saints selected Neal in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 184th overall.
ANALYSIS
Few would have found it shocking if Neal had gone as early as the third round, so in the sixth round he could prove a bargain for the Saints. The former Kansas star would ideally be a little more heavy (5-foot-11, 213 pounds) and would ideally have a little more speed (4.58-second 40-yard dash), but Neal's collegiate production was convincing on the question of his skill set. Neal really knows how to play, be it on running and passing downs, and if he gets his foot into the door history says he might be tough to put back on the bench. Neal might supplant Kendre Miller on the depth chart if Miller can't improve in his third year, though Neal is likely no threat to Alvin Kamara's usage.

Team adds competition at RB
Neal will have additional competition for a roster spot, as Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports that the Saints signed Cam Akers to a one-year contract Friday.
ANALYSIS
New Orleans lacks a clear backup to Alvin Kamara, with Akers joining a competition for that spot that includes Neal, Kendre Miller and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Most teams keep three running backs on the 53-man roster. Neal has youth working in his favor, as the rookie sixth-round pick out of Kansas will turn only 22 years old in August. Akers and Edwards-Helaire have both failed to live up to expectations after being top-52 selections in the 2020 NFL Draft, while Miller has been limited to just 14 appearances through two NFL seasons by injuries.
