The Lions placed Moseley (pectoral) on injured reserve Tuesday and designated him to return.
ANALYSIS
Moseley tore his pec during a practice in early August and is expected to be sidelined for an extended period. Under a new NFL rule, the Lions were able to exclude him from the 53-man roster on cutdown day and place him on IR while designating him to return. As such, Moseley will be eligible to return after missing Detroit's first four games of the season.

Signed to a one-year, $6 million deal to prove his worth in Detroit, Moseley remains in recovery from a torn ACL entering training camp. While he could carve out a sizable role down the road, Moseley is not certain to be ready for Week 1 and could have a hard time stealing snaps from Cameron Sutton, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Jerry Jacobs when healthy.
The 49ers' current front office group has failed to produce much of anything in terms of secondary talent or depth via the draft, but Moseley is the clear exception to that trend. While his stat lines may not excite IDP owners, his ability to stick with defenders without drawing excessive penalties has made him a legitimate starting option in the NFL.
Moseley was another undrafted gem unearthed by 49ers GM John Lynch, as the rookie was asked to step in as a starter as early as Week 3. The 24-year-old filled in for injured corner Akhello Witherspoon admirably but reverted to a reserve role upon his return. Moseley regained the starting job opposite Richard Sherman in the second half of the season and never looked back. The Tennessee product finished the regular season with 50 tackles, eight passes defended and an interception, and he was stuck as a starter up until the team's loss in the Super Bowl. Moseley likely will have to re-earn the starting job in camp, but he's certainly the favorite heading into the 2020 campaign.

Could return in 2024
CBDetroit Lions
August 6, 2024
Moseley could recover from his torn pectoral in time to play in 2024, ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Moseley has had a bad stretch of injury luck, as he tore his left ACL in 2022 and then his right in 2023. Coach Dan Campbell alluded to the possibility of Moseley retiring due to the toll his body has taken, but the coach ultimately believes Moseley will return. Amik Robertson and Ifeatu Melifonwu are the favorites to take over slot corner duties in Moseley's absence.
