Scores on fumble return
DEHouston Texans
November 19, 2024
Barnett had one tackle, 1.0 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in Monday's 34-10 win over Dallas in Week 11.
ANALYSIS
On a night when defensive end Will Anderson (ankle) was inactive, Barnett made an impact while filling the void. All of his activity came on one crazy play that proved to be the turning point in the game. Barnett stripped-sacked Cooper Rush. The ensuing fumble was recovered by Dallas offensive lineman Tyler Guyton, who attempted to advance the ball but had it dislodged from his grasp by Jalen Pitre. Re-enter Barnett, who scooped up the fumble on the bounce and went 28 yards untouched for a touchdown that made it a three-score game early in the fourth quarter. The sack was Barnett's third of the season and the TD his first since his rookie season in 2017, when as a member of the Eagles he returned a fumble for a score.

Barnett signed a two-year deal prior to last season but tore his ACL in Week 1 against the Lions. He was present for OTAs but wasn't a full participant, and he was limited early in camp, but he was participating in drills by the second week of August. Barnett should be able to carve out a role in the Eagles' defensive end rotation, but that's never led him to big numbers. He's reached five sacks three times but topped out at 6.5 in 2019.
Barnett started double-digit games for the third straight season last year, but the 2017 first-rounder has still yet to take a big step forward. 2021 actually represented a step back in some ways, as he finished the year with a career-low two sacks, though he did set a career high with 46 tackles. The Eagles liked him enough to bring him back on a two-year deal, but it's possible Barnett's snap count takes a hit this season with Brandon Graham set to return from a torn Achilles.
From first-round pick to Super Bowl hero all in his rookie season, Barnett will assume the starting job at right end in the wake of Vinny Curry's departure and should get every chance to do more in his second campaign. The 22-year-old will continue to benefit from a rotation with veterans Chris Long, Brandon Graham and Michael Bennett, however, which bodes well for the Tennessee product's growth and health after offseason sports hernia surgery.
The Eagles' first-round draft pick did not grade out well at the Combine but is coming off a college career that saw him break Reggie White's school mark for sacks at Tennessee. While defensive ends often take a year or two to fully emerge at the pro level, and coach Doug Pederson has so far declined to say from which side and how often he will employ the 14th overall pick, the erstwhile Volunteer is currently slated to rotate at end with the newly signed Chris Long and returning veterans Vinny Curry and Brandon Graham. The continued development of one or two of the remaining three ends on the roster (Steven Means, Marcus Smith and Alex McCalister) could also impact Barnett's playing time in his rookie season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Gauging trade market
DEPhiladelphia Eagles
August 28, 2023
Barnett's agent Drew Rosenhaus is testing the waters on a possible trade for the edge rusher, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Eagles have no plans to actually move the 2017 first-round pick as he heads into the final year of his current contract, but Barnett is apparently frustrated by his inability to secure a starting role on a deep Philadelphia defensive line and is looking for a better opportunity to showcase himself ahead of free agency. Barnett played only one game in 2022 due to a torn ACL but appears healthy heading into the current campaign.
