Bye Weeks: CAR, CIN, DAL, HOU, NYJ, TEN
Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.
Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:
- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.
These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Should I start Patrick Mahomes or Bryce Young?"
These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.
Each week, the first set of rankings will be posted on Tuesday night. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning.
When setting your lineups, make sure to refer to the NFL inactives to ensure all of your players are set to receive snaps.

Quarterbacks
1. | Patrick Mahomes KC vs. LAC |
2. | *Jalen Hurts PHI vs. MIA Note: Hurts is coming off of his worst game of the season, and his third interception led to the Jets getting the go-ahead score against the Eagles. |
3. | Tua Tagovailoa MIA at PHI |
4. | *Josh Allen BUF at NE Note: Allen was checked for a head injury in the win over the Giants, but he's apparently also dealing with a shoulder injury, which has him listed as day-to-day. Allen fully practiced on Thursday. |
5. | Justin Herbert LAC at KC |
6. | Jared Goff DET at BAL |
7. | Lamar Jackson BAL vs. DET |
8. | *Geno Smith SEA vs. ARI Note: Smith had a rough day in the red zone, getting picked off twice and getting sacked multiple times when attempting to lead the Seahawks on go-ahead scores. |
9. | Sam Howell WAS at NYG |
10. | Matthew Stafford LA vs. PIT |
11. | Jordan Love GB at DEN |
12. | Russell Wilson DEN vs. GB |
13. | Brock Purdy SF at MIN |
14. | *Trevor Lawrence JAC at NO Note: Lawrence (knee) was limited in Tuesday's practice, but the Jaguars are hopeful that he can play Thursday. C.J. Beathard took more snaps with the first-team on Tuesday. Lawrence is expected to start, pending how he gets through the pregame warmup. |
15. | *Baker Mayfield TB vs. ATL Note: Mayfield is dealing with a contusion on his left (non-throwing) hand. Mayfield is not on the initial injury report. |
16. | *Derek Carr NO vs. JAX Note: Carr (chest/shoulder) was a full participant in Tuesday's walkthrough. He and the Saints host Jacksonville on Thursday. |
17. | Desmond Ridder ATL at TB |
18. | Kenny Pickett PIT at LAR |
19. | *Joshua Dobbs ARZ at SEA Note: ***Teammate Kyler Murray has been designated to return from IR, but is likely to wait until Week 10 to actually return.*** |
20. | *Kirk Cousins MIN vs. SF Note: Cousins had very modest numbers without Justin Jefferson in a great matchup against the Bears - how will he fare in a much tougher matchup against the Niners? |
21. | *Deshaun Watson CLE at IND Note: Watson (rotator cuff) was slated for some practice participation on Wednesday. ***He had a full practice Friday and took the first-team reps in Saturday's walk-through. The presumption is that he'll start, though coach Kevin Stefanski didn't officially announce that Watson would start.*** |
22. | *Tyrod Taylor NYG vs. WAS Note: ***Taylor appears to be in line to start again this week.*** |
23. | *Gardner Minshew IND vs. CLE Note: Teammate Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is likely done for the season. Minshew committed four turnovers (three interceptions, one fumble) and was lucky that it wasn't more in the loss to the Jaguars. |
24. | *Mac Jones NE vs. BUF Note: The Pats expect that Jones will start again this week against the Bills. But once again, that they have to answer the question in the first place speaks volumes. |
25. | *Brian Hoyer LV at CHI Note: Took over for Jimmy Garoppolo (back) and protected the ball well, leading the Raiders on two drives that led to field goals in the second half. ***Garoppolo has been ruled out, so it appears that Hoyer will start, though it's interesting that Josh McDaniels didn't declare a starter.*** |
26. | *Tyson Bagent CHI vs. LV Note: Bagent led the Bears on a scoring drive that resulted in his rushing touchdown, but also committed two killer turnovers, including a fumble-six for the Vikings. He'll likely start this week with Justin Fields (thumb) doubtful. ***Fields is out, so Bagent will start, backed up by Nathan Peterman.*** |
27. | Taysom Hill NO vs. JAX |
28. | Aidan O'Connell LV at CHI |
29. | *PJ Walker CLE at IND Note: By rule, Walker reverted back to the practice squad on Monday, but should Deshaun Watson need to miss another game, Walker would presumably be the man again after the Browns upset the Niners last week. ***Walker was elevated back on the active roster, though it looks as if Watson will be ready to start this week.*** |
30. | *Daniel Jones NYG vs. WAS Note: Jones said that his neck is feeling a lot better, and he's hopeful he can play this week against the Commanders. Jones has been a limited participant in practice both Wednesday and Thursday. ***Jones had limited practice all week, but hadn't been cleared for contact as of Saturday. Thus, he's listed as questionable but is unlikely to play.*** |
31. | *Jimmy Garoppolo LV at CHI Note: Garoppolo was taken to a local hospital to get more exams done on his injured back Sunday and was set for more tests Monday. Brian Hoyer replaced him last week, as Aidan O'Connell, who started Week 4, was inactive. Garoppolo is not expected to play. ***Garoppolo has been ruled out, but could return next week.*** |
32. | *Justin Fields CHI vs. LV Note: Fields suffered a dislocated right thumb in the loss to the Vikings. He's doubtful for this week as he's unlikely to have enough grip strength. Tyson Bagent is in line to start in his place. ***Fields has been ruled out for this week, but could return next week. The Bears have ruled out surgery for his thumb.*** |
33. | *Kyler Murray ARZ at SEA Note: Murray (knee) has been designated to return from the IR and has started to have limited practices. ***The Cardinals have signaled that they are likely going to wait until Week 10 to bring Murray back.*** |
Running Backs
1. | Kenneth Walker SEA vs. ARI |
2. | Travis Etienne JAC at NO |
3. | D'Andre Swift PHI vs. MIA |
4. | Bijan Robinson ATL at TB |
5. | Raheem Mostert MIA at PHI |
6. | Alvin Kamara NO vs. JAX |
7. | *Saquon Barkley NYG vs. WAS Note: Barkley (ankle) was limited in practice both Wednesday and Thursday, and there's a chance that it could be that way in practice each week. ***Cleared from the injury list on Friday.*** |
8. | *Austin Ekeler LAC at KC Note: Ekeler struggled to get going against the Cowboys' defense Monday night, but the good news is that he appeared to make it out of the game unscathed, despite having 18 touches. |
9. | Josh Jacobs LV at CHI |
10. | *Aaron Jones GB at DEN Note: Jones (hamstring) has been limited in practice the first two days of the week, though he looked comfortable making cuts. ***Jones is listed as questionable, but is expected to play this afternoon barring a setback in pregame warmups.*** |
11. | Isiah Pacheco KC vs. LAC |
12. | Brian Robinson WAS at NYG |
13. | *Christian McCaffrey SF at MIN Note: McCaffrey left with oblique and rib injuries. The team doesn't consider the injuries to be long-term, and there's a chance he plays Monday night at Minnesota, but for now we'll leave him as if he's not playing until we hear more information. McCaffrey sat out the Niners' first practice of the week on Thursday. ***McCaffrey also sat out Friday and returned to a limited practice Saturday. The indications are that McCaffrey will play, but this decision could go all the way until Monday night's kickoff.*** |
14. | Jonathan Taylor IND vs. CLE |
15. | Javonte Williams DEN vs. GB |
16. | *Jerome Ford CLE at IND Note: Hunt was the starter last week, and Ford was the finisher, with a number of big fourth-quarter runs. |
17. | James Cook BUF at NE |
18. | Alexander Mattison MIN vs. SF |
19. | *D'Onta Foreman CHI vs. LV Note: ***Teammate Roschon Johnson (concussion) remains out again this week.*** |
20. | *Jahmyr Gibbs DET at BAL Note: Gibbs (hamstring) is trending towards playing this week against the Ravens. Once he upgrades to a full practice, I'll probably move him up to around 20-25 in the rankings. I think he'll still share time with Craig Reynolds. Gibbs was listed as limited again on Thursday, as was Reynolds. ***Gibbs was removed from the injury list on Friday. Meanwhile, Reynolds is listed as questionable but is expected to play.*** |
21. | Najee Harris PIT at LAR |
22. | Rachaad White TB vs. ATL |
23. | *Rhamondre Stevenson NE vs. BUF Note: Briefly left last week's game to get checked out for a concussion, but later returned and scored. Stevenson (ankle) was limited Wednesday but upgraded to a full practice Thursday. |
24. | Justice Hill BAL vs. DET |
25. | *Keaontay Ingram ARZ at SEA Note: Ingram was solid in the first half, though he ceded snaps to Demercado in the second half as the Cardinals abandoned the running game. |
26. | Zack Moss IND vs. CLE |
27. | Tyler Allgeier ATL at TB |
28. | AJ Dillon GB at DEN |
29. | Jaylen Warren PIT at LAR |
30. | *Jordan Mason SF at MIN Note: Mason scored last week after McCaffrey left with an injury. |
31. | Antonio Gibson WAS at NYG |
32. | Kenneth Gainwell PHI vs. MIA |
33. | *Ezekiel Elliott NE vs. BUF Note: Elliott had his first Pats touchdown but had another long touchdown catch wiped out due to penalty. |
34. | Gus Edwards BAL vs. DET |
35. | *Royce Freeman LA vs. PIT Note: Promoted from the Rams' practice squad. ***It looks like Freeman will start, but will share carries with Darrell Henderson and Zach Evans.*** |
36. | *Jeff Wilson MIA at PHI Note: Wilson (ribs/finger) fully practiced on Wednesday. ***Wilson had full practices all week and was activated from the IR. I expect him to step up over Salvon Ahmed to be the top backup to Mostert.*** |
37. | *Kareem Hunt CLE at IND Note: Hunt (thigh) was rested on Wednesday but returned to a limited practice Thursday. ***Hunt was limited all week and appears to be a true game-time decision.*** Hunt is ACTIVE.*** |
38. | Jaleel McLaughlin DEN vs. GB |
39. | *Craig Reynolds DET at BAL Note: Reynolds is in line to possibly start with David Montgomery expected to miss time with a rib injury. It looks like Jahmyr Gibbs will be back, however. Reynolds has hamstring and toe issues of his own - he missed practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday. ***Reynolds is listed as questionable, but is expected to play, but will probably be behind Gibbs in his workload.*** |
40. | *Latavius Murray BUF at NE Note: Murray saw 12 carries on Sunday night and could see a similar workload going forward, with Damien Harris out. |
41. | Elijah Mitchell SF at MIN |
42. | *Darrell Henderson LA vs. PIT Note: ***Henderson was promoted from the practice squad. It looks like Royce Freeman will start, but Henderson and Zach Evans will also have work.*** |
43. | Samaje Perine DEN vs. GB |
44. | Jerick McKinnon KC vs. LAC |
45. | *Salvon Ahmed MIA at PHI Note: Ahmed scored a touchdown late in the win over the Panthers and could get more work this week against the Eagles, unless Jeff Wilson returns. |
46. | *Darrynton Evans CHI vs. LV Note: Evans had 10 touches in the loss to the Vikings but could get relegated out of a meaningful role if Roschon Johnson (concussion) returns this week. ***Johnson is out again this week.*** |
47. | *Jamaal Williams NO vs. JAX Note: The Saints activated Williams (hamstring) from IR, though he's still listed as questionable. |
48. | *DeeJay Dallas SEA vs. ARI Note: ***Teammate Zach Charbonnet (hamstring) looks to be out this week.*** |
49. | *Zach Evans LA vs. PIT Note: Evans is next in line to start for the Rams, though they've brought in Royce Freeman and Myles Gaskin, and added Darrell Henderson to the practice squad. Hopefully this doesn't play out like the Arizona RB situation last week. ***Alas, it appears it *will* work out like Arizona last week. Royce Freeman is now expected to start, and Darrell Henderson is also active.*** |
50. | Tank Bigsby JAC at NO |
51. | *Emari Demercado ARZ at SEA Note: Demercado had the largest snap share of the Arizona running backs, but managed only three touches despite being on the field for 43 percent of the snaps. |
52. | Cam Akers MIN vs. SF |
53. | Matt Breida NYG vs. WAS |
54. | Joshua Kelley LAC at KC |
55. | *Keaton Mitchell BAL vs. DET Note: Despite being activated before the game, Mitchell didn't play any offensive snaps in the win over the Titans. |
56. | Clyde Edwards-Helaire KC vs. LAC |
57. | Pierre Strong CLE at IND |
58. | Zamir White LV at CHI |
59. | Boston Scott PHI vs. MIA |
60. | *Ke'Shawn Vaughn TB vs. ATL Note: Vaughn and not Sean Tucker served as the Bucs' number two back, though he struggled with six carries for nine yards. |
61. | *Kendre Miller NO vs. JAX Note: Miller's role with the Saints is clouded by the return of Jamaal Williams from IR. |
62. | Cordarrelle Patterson ATL at TB |
63. | *Myles Gaskin LA vs. PIT Note: The Rams claimed Gaskin off the Vikings' practice squad. |
64. | *Zach Charbonnet SEA vs. ARI Note: Charbonnet sat out Wednesday's practice with a hamstring issue. ***Listed as questionable but unlikely to play.*** |
65. | *David Montgomery DET at BAL Note: Montgomery (ribs) is expected to 'miss some time' with his latest injury. Montgomery did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. ***Officially ruled out.*** |
66. | *Roschon Johnson CHI vs. LV Note: Awaiting Johnson's status vis-a-vis the concussion protocol. Johnson missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. ***Ruled out again this week.*** |
67. | *Damien Harris BUF at NE Note: Harris suffered a concussion and neck sprain Sunday night in a scary incident that had him taken off the field in an ambulance after an extended time being looked at. Did not practice Wednesday and Thursday. ***Harris was placed on IR.*** |
68. | *Chris Brooks MIA at PHI Note: Brooks is week-to-week with the ankle sprain suffered late in the win over the Panthers. ***Placed on IR by the Dolphins.*** |
69. | *Kyren Williams LA vs. PIT Note: Though Williams doesn't appear to have a long-term absence with his ankle sprain, he's also not expected to play this week against the Steelers. Williams is expected to miss multiple weeks. ***The prognosis keeps getting worse for Williams, who was placed on IR on Saturday.*** |
70. | *Ronnie Rivers LA vs. PIT Note: Rivers is out four-to-five weeks with a PCL sprain. Placed on IR on Wednesday. |
Wide Receivers

87. | *Jordan Mason SF at MIN Note: Mason scored last week after McCaffrey left with an injury. |
89. | Jaylen Warren PIT at LAR |

91. | *Darrell Henderson LA vs. PIT Note: ***Henderson was promoted from the practice squad. It looks like Royce Freeman will start, but Henderson and Zach Evans will also have work.*** |
