Seventh Match Preview: Hobart Hurricanes vs. Melbourne Stars

Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars will face each other in the seventh game of the Big Bash League (BBL) in Hobart on Monday. Both teams are still in the mix of finding the right balance after playing just one game in the tournament. In their previous match, Hurricanes beat Brisbane Heat by 15 runs, whereas Stars suffered a 15-run defeat in their only game of the tournament so far through Duckworth-Lewis Stern (DLS) method against Sydney Thunder.

In the batting department, the home side will be relying on in-form D'Arcy Short and experienced George Bailey to score bulk of the runs, whereas in the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of James Faulkner, Johan Botha and Jofra Archer to provide timely breakthroughs.

On the other hand, Stars will be relying on captain Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis in the batting department to score bulk of the runs, whereas in the bowling department, the onus will be on the spin trio of Michael Beer, Adam Zampa and Sandeep Lamichhane to do bulk of the damage. In the last five meetings between both teams, Stars clearly have an upper edge as they managed to win three, interestingly all by chasing.

In the last five meetings between both teams, Stars clearly have an upper edge as they managed to win three, interestingly all by chasing.

Key Players:

Johan Botha – 8.5 Cr

First in the list of key players features Hobart Hurricanes' Johan Botha. The 36-year-old is in the twilight of his playing career but can still do more than a decent job for the team with the ball in hand which he showed in the tournament opener where he claimed figures of two for 30 in the match against Brisbane Heat. Therefore Botha, who is valued at 8.5 Cr, might prove to be a good purchase for your team, especially considering the pitch conditions at the venue which support spin bowlers. Botha has played 206 matches in the T20 format, where he has 157 wickets to his name.

Sandeep Lamichhane – 9 Cr

Second in the list of key players features Melbourne Stars' Sandeep Lamichhane. The 18-year-old is the new spin sensation in the world of cricket and is being rated highly in the shortest format of the game. In his only outing in the BBL, Lamichhane claimed figures of two for 36. Therefore, Lamichhane, who is valued at 9 Cr, might prove to be a good purchase for your team considering he will get a lot of purchase from the Hobart pitch. The Delhi Daredevils leg-spinner has played 13 T20s, where he has 16 wickets to his name.

D'Arcy Short – 10 Cr

Last in the list of key players features Hobart Hurricanes' D'Arcy Short. The left-hander is a proven talent in the competition after finishing the last season as the highest run-getter with 572 runs at an average of 57.20. In the season opener, Short scored a brilliant 67 off just 52 balls and played a key role in guiding the team towards an important win. Therefore, Short, who is valued at 10 Cr, can prove to be an ideal purchase for your team, more so because he is playing at the home ground. Short has played 46 T20 matches, where he has 1,467 runs to his name at an impressive average of 34.11.
