23rd Match Preview: Hobart Hurricanes vs. Melbourne Renegades

The Hobart Hurricanes will travel to the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne to take on the Renegades in what promises to be a mouth-watering clash. The Hurricanes sit pretty at the top of the table with victories in all of their five matches so far. The Renegades, on the other hand, have fallen behind and are currently placed at sixth on the points table with two victories from five matches.

The Renegades won both of their opening encounters, but they lost the plot soon, losing the next three. Their problems have predominantly been the failure of their top order. That has been aggravated by the failure of their middle and lower order as well during the last three games. However, they will be bolstered by the return of Aaron Finch at the top of the order and hence will be looking for a change in their fortunes.

The Hurricanes, however, have been in rampaging form with no problem whatsoever. Their openers Mathew Wade and D'Arcy Short have been in sublime form and their middle order consisting of the likes of Ben McDermott, Alex Doolan and George Bailey have chipped in too. Their bowlers have been exceptional as well and that has been the reason for their success so far this season. Having said that, their middle and lower order remains largely untested. It would be interesting to see how they react if the Renegades are able to get rid of their openers early.

Weather and Pitch Conditions: Weather will remain mostly clear although there are chances of some passing showers. But there is nothing that would affect the match. Pitch has something for both bowlers and batsmen. The slower bowlers and spinners will come into play.

Player Recommendations:

Wicket-keeper: Mathew Wade (9 Cr)

The Hobart Hurricanes' keeper has 181 runs to his name at 36.20 this season. He has scored two fifties as well which includes a BBL career best of 85 runs. He opens the batting and is a great asset to have as a wicket-keeper.

Batsman: D'Arcy Short (10.5 Cr)

Short is the second highest run-scorer in the tournament so far with 257 runs to his name at 51.40. He is listed as a batsman but he bowls his four overs of wrist spin regularly too, which has fetched him four wickets too. Surely, you don't need any more reason to pick him in your team.

All-rounder: Daniel Christian (9.5 Cr)

He has exactly 100 runs to his name with the bat and has also picked up four wickets with his medium pace bowling so far. He is the best available all-rounder in this match who can outscore everyone with both bat and ball.

Bowler: Jofra Archer (9 Cr)

Archer has seven wickets to his name in five matches so far at an average of 22.42, economy rate of 7.85 and strike rate of 17.1. He might not be near the top wicket takers of this season so far but he may well get close to them by the end of the season.

Captain: D'Arcy Short

Vice-Captain: Daniel Christian
