Rakuten Monkeys (14-4) at Uni-President Lions (8-13)
Tuesday, May 12, 6:35 AM EDT
Projected Starters
RHP Wang Wei-Chun (2-1, 5.82 ERA) vs RHP Donn Roach (1-3, 10.18 ERA)
Game Preview
Tuesday's lone CPBL matchup sees a battle between first and last place. The Monkeys enter the contest having taken two out of three against the Brothers in their previous series, opening up a six-game lead at the top of the standings. The Lions, meanwhile, finally got a win against the Guardians on Sunday, ending their six-game skid. Second-year lefty Wang Wei-Chun will take the hill for the Monkeys. His 5.82 ERA through three starts this season looks worryingly similar to his 6.14 mark as a rookie, though two of his three starts were quite good. His lone bad start to date did come against the Lions, however, as they knocked him around to the tune of eight runs (seven earned) in 3.1 innings back on April 26. The Lions will send Donn Roach to the mound, though they might prefer not to. The American's 10.18 ERA and 2.07 WHIP through his first four starts in Taiwan aren't nearly good enough for any pitcher, let alone one who's taking up one of the team's precious few foreign player spots. The Monkeys scored six runs off him in 4.2 innings in his season debut, and things haven't really improved from there.

Top Picks
Weng Wei-Chun, Monkeys: Weng's numbers this season don't inspire a ton of confidence, but they're certainly far better than what his counterpart, Donn Roach, has managed thus far. It's hard to start Roach in any contest, let alone one where he costs more than his opponent and is facing the league's best offense.
Chu Yu-Hsien, Monkeys: Chu started the season at a ridiculous pace and hasn't slowed down. He has at least one hit in each of his 17 games this season, hitting .449 with 11 homers, 18 runs and 24 RBI.
Lan Yin-Lun, Monkeys: Lan costs just 9.5 credits, far too cheap for the number three hitter on the league's best offense. His homer on Sunday gave him four on the season to go with his .375 batting average.
Lin An-Ko, Lions: Lin remains the top captain choice for players predicting an upset in this contest. His seven homers on the season trail only Chu Yu-Hsien for the league lead.
