Uni-President Lions (10-16) at Rakuten Monkeys (16-6)
Saturday, May 23, 5:05 AM EDT
Projected Starters
LHP Ryan Feierabend (1-2, 4.50 ERA) vs LHP Ryan Carpenter (1-1, 3.55 ERA)
Game Preview
Rain has canceled every CPBL game this week, but the Lions and Monkeys will hope to finally get a game in for the first time in six days. Both teams have switched up their scheduled starters, with each sending an American lefty to the mound. Lions' starter Ryan Feierabend's 4.50 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through his first six CPBL starts don't look great on the surface, but considering the league's average ERA this season is 6.32 while the league-average WHIP sits at 1.65, he's actually been quite a solid option. The Monkeys' Ryan Carpenter has produced numbers which look good regardless of the context, as he's cruised to a 3.55 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP over his first five starts in the league.

Ryan Carpenter, Monkeys: The one-credit gap between the pair of Ryans, Carpenter and Feierabend, isn't enough to make selecting the latter worth the risk. Carpenter has been the better pitcher this season and

Top Picks
Ryan Carpenter, Monkeys: The one-credit gap between the pair of Ryans, Carpenter and Feierabend, isn't enough to make selecting the latter worth the risk. Carpenter has been the better pitcher this season and won't have to face the Monkeys' nearly unstoppable lineup.
Lin Li, Monkeys: There's rarely a game where Lin doesn't make for an excellent captain choice. The 24-year-old leads his team with 27 runs and 27 RBI through 21 games. He's also a threat on the basepaths, stealing nine bases.
Chen Chen-Wei, Monkeys: Leadoff man Chen deserves consideration in a captain slot as well. He leads the entire league with 13 steals and is tied for third in the league with 25 runs scored.
Wu Chieh-Jui, Lions: Selecting Carpenter as our pitcher means we're looking to spend most of our budget on Monkeys' hitters. Wu's cheap price (eight credits) makes him a good value, especially if he bats third like he did in the Lions' most recent game last Sunday.
