Chinatrust Brothers (6-7) at Rakuten Monkeys (9-3)
Saturday, May 2, 5:05 AM EDT
Projected Starters
RHP Esmil Rogers (1-0, 4.26 ERA) vs LHP Wang Yi-Cheng (2-0, 1.29 ERA)
Game Preview
The Brothers handed the Monkeys their third loss of the season in a 12-inning thriller in the first game of the series. The visitors will send 34-year-old Dominican righty Esmil Rogers to the mound as they look to win their fifth game in their last seven contests. Rogers, who recorded a 5.59 ERA over parts of seven seasons in MLB earlier in his career, is in the midst of his first season in the CPBL. He's had one good start and one poor start to open his career in Taiwan but will face his toughest task yet against a Monkeys' lineup which has scored 7.9 runs per game. The league-leading Monkeys will run out fellow 34-year-old Wang Yi-Cheng as they attempt to get back in the win column. The lefty owns a respectable 4.84 ERA in his eight-year CPBL career but has been quite good to start this campaign, allowing just two runs in 14 innings across his first two starts, winning both.

Top Picks
Lin Li, Monkeys: The Monkeys' potent lineup contains the three most expensive hitters in the contest in Lin and his teammates Chen Chun-Hsiu and Chu Yu-Hsien. All three would make for excellent captain choices, but Lin gets the slight edge due to his superior position in the lineup (second), which should give him the greatest chance to be in the middle of his team's rallies.
Chu Yu-Hsien, Monkeys: If you can fit two of the Monkeys' expensive trio into your lineup, Chu is the next one to target. While he somewhat strangely continues to bat near the bottom of the Monkeys' order, he's certainly made the most of his opportunities, following up his league-leading 30 home runs last season with eight homers in 11 games to start this campaign.
Wang Yi-Cheng, Monkeys: It's generally wise to avoid pitchers who have to face the Monkeys whenever possible, so it's a relatively easy decision to take Wang here and save the extra 2.5 credits compared to his counterpart, Esmil Rogers. The left-handed Wang will benefit from the fact that three of the Brothers' top four hits leaders (Wang Wei-Chen, Su Wei-Ta and Yueh Tung-Hua) all bat left-handed.
Chan Tzu-Hsien, Brothers: If the Brothers are able to pull off a second straight upset, Chan will likely play a big part. The right-handed slugger, who's hitting .377 with three homers and 11 RBI so far this season, could tee off on the left-handed Wang Yi-Cheng.
