DFS College Football 101: Week 10 Friday

We have three games on the docket for this Friday College Football DFS slate, and two of them feature a meeting of Power Five opponents. The Pittsburgh-Virginia tilt has a chance of some light showers, but there's nothing major to report from a weather standpoint. The biggest news to monitor as we approach kickoff comes from the questionable status of Colorado star WR Laviska Shenault Jr and Western Kentucky QB Drew Eckels. We'll cover those items later in the write-ups. Meanwhile, here are the odds attached to these Friday matchups.

Pittsburgh at Virginia (-7) – Total: 47

Western Kentucky at Middle Tennessee State (-13) – Total: 53

Colorado at Arizona (-2) – Total: 56

Looking within that, I'll highlight the best fantasy selections on FanDuel & DraftKings while also touching on some situations to monitor for your DFS squads.

QUARTERBACK

Bryce Perkins – Virignia (FanDuel $10,100 / DraftKings $7,600)

First off, Perkins is remarkably underpriced on DraftKings, where he should be rostered without hesitation. I'm looking towards him on FanDuel as well despite the heavier salary. Perkins is a dual-threat quarterback who has posted some pretty incredible stat lines with 33 and 37 FP respectively over the past two weeks. Now he'll see one of his best matchups in recent memory, facing a Pittsburgh defense that ranks 89th in opponent passer rating and 105th in yards per carry allowed. Pitt has allowed 37 or more points in four of their past five

Pitt has allowed 37 or more points in four of their past five games, and there should be plenty of room for Perkins to repeatedly find the end-zone.

Also Consider: My next favorite overall quarterback of this slate is Steven Montez in a high-scoring clash at Arizona. It's possible to squeeze Perkins and Montez in the same lineup, but you'll likely need a punt (or two) at receiver … If you are looking for a cheaper signal caller, Brent Stockstill and Drew Eckels are two viable candidates from the MTSU-WKU game. Eckels is dirt cheap on both sites while listed as probable. He hasn't played since September 8, so we'd want some confirmation before taking a chance on him in DFS.

RUNNING BACK

J.J. Taylor - Arizona (FanDuel $8,600 / DraftKings $8,600)

Taylor is my favorite running back pick of the night, and I'll be gobbling up shares on both DFS sites. The Wildcats have had inconsistent quarterback play all season (to say the least), and Taylor has been the lone constant to keep that offense afloat. He has impressed with 49 carries, 366 yards and three scores over the past two weeks. He will see plenty of volume to make things happen against a mediocre Colorado run defense.

Travon McMillian – Colorado (FanDuel $9,000 / DraftKings $6,300)

It may seem strange to choose two running backs from the same game, but this Arizona-Colorado matchup should feature plenty of points to go around. McMillian's salary is much more agreeable on DraftKings, where I'll be focused on him as an RB2 or FLEX selection. Kyle Evans was the co-starter alongside him to begin the season, but McMillian has out-carried Evans by a 93 to 19 margin over the past four games. He should see 20+ touches in a reasonable matchup at Arizona.

Also Consider: Middle Tennessee State is favored by a few scores, which could give its running game a chance to get going in the second half. It's risky to guess which running back would benefit in that situation, but Terelle West is coming off a nice 13-120-1 line at Old Dominion last week. He's a risk/reward tournament play, but the discount on FanDuel could help you squeeze the headline picks into your lineups … Qadree Ollison has looked good for Pittsburgh lately, but his price tag and matchup combination has me looking towards him more for tournaments only. I'd rather go with McMillian or Taylor.

WIDE RECEIVER

Olamide Zaccheaus - Virginia (FanDuel $9,700 / DraftKings $7,000)

Take note that Zaccheaus is listed as a running back on DraftKings and wide receiver on FanDuel. It doesn't really matter, because I'll be looking to take him any way I can get him on Friday. He's a stacking extension of QB Bryce Perkins who sees volume through the air (9+ catches in 3 of past 4) as well as opportunities on the ground. As mentioned earlier, this is a great matchup for Virginia, as the Pittsburgh defense hasn't provided much resistance as of late.

Ty Lee – Middle Tennessee State (FanDuel $8,900 / DraftKings $6,000)

Middle Tennessee has the highest scoring projection of the night, and some of that could come via Ty Lee in the passing game. MTSU's leading receiver got off to a slow start this season, but he has picked things up with 11 catches, 129 yards and three scores over his past two games. It may be tough to work in his salary on FanDuel, but I'm having an easy time making him appear in my DraftKings lineups.

Also Consider: The big news of the day revolves around Colorado star WR Laviska Shenault Jr, who has missed the last two games with a toe injury. He's currently listed as questionable, and there's a chance we won't know his true status until game-time at 10:30 ET. If he's out, K.D. Nixon is prime to fill the void as Colorado's top receiver – promoting him to consideration through all DFS formats. Tony Brown would gain consideration as a cheap WR as well … Some economical fillers at the position include Gatlin Casey ($4400 DK), Kyle Fourtenbary ($6500 FD / $3000 DK), Mik'Quan Deane ($3300 DK) and Quin Jernighan ($5600 FD).
