Magic take down Cavs 104-94
The Orlando Magic (16-7) defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers (13-10) by a score of 104-94 at the Amway Center on Monday night.

Not surprisingly, the contest was a low-scoring one as it featured two of the top defensive teams in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland was able to rush out to a seven-point lead after the first quarter, but the Magic responded by winning the next two frames, including a dominant 30-15 third quarter performance. The Cavs made it interesting in the fourth quarter as they cut the lead to single digits, but Orlando was able to hang on for their second straight win, while Cleveland had their three-game winning streak cut down. While both teams each committed 14 turnovers, the Magic outscored the Cavs in points off turnovers 26-11, which was a major factor in Orlando’s victory.

It was a balanced scoring attack by the Magic, with four of the five Orlando starters scoring in double digits. Paolo Banchero led the way with his fifth double-double of the season with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, though he did have a career-high eight turnovers in the contest. Franz Wagner chipped in with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Joe Ingles chipped in 12 points, four rebounds and three assists off the bench. Both Ingles and Banchero sustained ankle sprains in the third quarter, but both were able to return to action in the fourth quarter.

While the Cavaliers struggled overall from the field – shooting just 35.3 percent from the floor and 22.5 percent from three – Darius Garland had an efficient night and led the way with 36 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Donovan Mitchel had 22 points and three steals in the game, though he shot 33.3 percent overall and 20.0 percent from beyond the arc. Tristan Thompson played a season-high 29 minutes off the bench and registered his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Next up, the Cavs hit the road to face the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night, while the Magic will also play the Celtics on the road but won’t face them until Friday, Dec. 15.
