Pacers Pull Away Late, Defeat Jazz
The Indiana Pacers defeated the Utah Jazz, 134-118, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday.

The Pacers (5-3) endured a rough start to this one but managed to pull away in the second half to get past the Jazz (2-7) in front of a 14,509 home crowd. The Pacers and the Jazz went back and forth in the first quarter, which meant the opening 12 minutes finished with a 29-29 tie. However, Indiana didn’t waste time and pulled away in the second quarter after outscoring their rivals by a 38-31 margin. The Jazz managed to reduce the deficit in the third quarter, and a 38-34 score made it a three-point game with 12 minutes on the clock. The Jazz didn’t step their foot off the gas in the fourth, however, and they not only made it a double-digit contest, but they ran away with the victory with ease following a 33-20 score in the final 12 minutes. With the win, the Pacers moved to 4-2 at home, while the Jazz remain winless on the road (0-5).

Aaron Nesmith led the Pacers in this win with 24 points, two rebounds and two steals despite coming off the bench. Bennedict Mathurin and Myles Turner each had 22 points. Mathurin filled the stat sheet with nine rebounds, four assists and two steals, while Turner had six boards and three blocks. Tyrese Haliburton contributed a 16-point, 13-assist double-double that also included six rebounds. Jalen Smith had 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

Jordan Clarkson carried the Jazz despite the loss, as he finished with 33 points, five assists and three rebounds. Lauri Markkanen chipped in with 24 points and nine rebounds. John Collins also sniffed a double-double thanks to his 14 points and nine boards. No other Utah starter scored in double digits. Simone Fontecchio and Collin Sexton each had 10 points as well.
