Elite Players
Guards
Derrick White, Celtics
($7,900) at Knicks
White came up large with 25 points, three rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block in the Celtics' season opener. It is no surprise that he was able to step up as a top offensive contributor for the new-look lineup, as he has shown countless times that he is a capable scorer. He should continue to lean into the role of an offensive leader, while his ability to impact the rest of the stat sheet makes him one of the safest picks at his position.
Donovan Mitchell, Cavaliers
($9,100) at Nets
Mitchell delivered 31 points, two rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block in the Cavs' season opener. He is once again on the hook to step up his all-around offensive effort, including as a facilitator while Darius Garland remains sidelined. Mitchell also faces a favorable matchup against a Nets squad that does not have much of an imposing defensive presence in the backcourt.
Forwards/Centers
Franz Wagner, Magic
($7,600) vs. Hawks
Wagner picked up where he left off last season, as a dynamic scorer from the wing, delivering 24 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals in the Magic's season opener. He should be able to keep the momentum going against the Hawks, who showed little defensive resistance in their season opener, as they gave up a whopping 138 points to the Raptors.
Evan Mobley, Cavaliers
($8,400) at Nets
Mobley turned in 22 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block in his season opener, and he must continue to step up his scoring game to help make up for the absence of Darius Garland. The reigning defensive player of the year can also be relied upon to boost his production with steals and blocks. Additionally, Mobley should find a notable advantage in the post while matched up across from Michael Porter.
Anthony Davis, Mavericks
($9,800) vs. Wizards
Davis faced one of the toughest matchups in the game while lined up across from Victor Wembanyama in the Mavs' season opener. Nonetheless, Davis managed 22 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and a block, despite his team being blown out. Looking ahead, he faces a much lighter matchup against a Wizards frontcourt that lacks a proven rim protector. He should be able to help his squad bounce back by dominating the frontcourt and stuffing the stat sheet in this one.
Expected Chalk
Victor Wembanyama, Spurs
($11,300) at Pelicans
Wembanyama delivered a performance that likely struck fear into most of the league, as he racked up 40 points, 15 rebounds, a steal and three blocks while lined up across from three-time NBA All-Defensive First Team player, Anthony Davis. Wembanyama has such size that he holds an automatic advantage over all competitors, while his mobility and versatile offensive skill set make him nearly unstoppable. He faces a great opportunity to shine against a Pelicans frontcourt that is limited by injuries.
Mid-Range Money
Stephon Castle, Spurs
($6,800) at Pelicans
Reigning Rookie of the Year, Stephon Castle produced 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals in 29 minutes of action out of a starting role in the Spurs' season opener. He faces a great opportunity to keep the momentum going with a matchup against the Pelicans, as their top wing defenders will not be able to focus on helping anywhere other than on stopping Victor Wembanyama.
P.J. Washington, Mavericks
($5,000) vs. Wizards
Washington amassed 26.8 DK points in the Mavs' season opener, where he tallied 17 points, five rebounds and a block in 29 minutes as a starter. He can be expected to continue to handle a key role, as the squad looks to be going with a bigger lineup, starting Cooper Flagg at point guard as a workaround for Kyrie Irving's absence.
Value Picks
Lonzo Ball, Cavaliers
($4,400) at Nets
Ball saw 23 minutes of action in the Cavs' season opener and, despite scoring only three points, was able to deliver solid production with four rebounds and six assists. He will continue to be a valuable asset for the squad, especially in the absence of Darius Garland. Ball also faces a favorable matchup against the new-look Nets.
Keldon Johnson, Spurs
($4,800) at Pelicans
Johnson provided a notable boost off the bench with 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal in the Spurs' season opener. He should continue to see a notable amount of action off the bench, especially in the absence of Jeremy Sochan. Additionally, he should find an advantage against a depleted Pelicans frontcourt.
Dereck Lively, Mavericks
($4,800) vs. Wizards
Lively was limited to just 10 minutes of action in the last game and delivered 10.5 DK points in that time. Nonetheless, he has a strong claim to a significant role with the absence of Daniel Gafford, and he should have a much easier time staying in the game against the Wizards, where he will be able to contribute to a size advantage in the frontcourt.
