Best NBA Bets Today (Thursday, Jan. 22)
Kevin Durant over 29.5 points + assists at Philadelphia 76ers (-111)
DraftKings, 11:04 AM CT
Nick Whalen: Durant is coming off of a couple of down scoring games, but he's racked up 22 total assists over his last three outings. This is a pace-up spot, as usual, for the Rockets, so I like Durant to score in the low-to-mid-20s while continuing to facilitate in the half court. Over the last 10 games, the Sixers are allowing 28.5 assists per game — the fifth-most in the NBA.
Tyrese Maxey under 6.5 assists (-120) vs. Houston Rockets
FanDuel, 2:11 PM CT
Alex Barutha: Maxey's assist rate varies wildly. He's had four games this season with 10+ assists and four games with two or fewer. It's led to an average of 6.7 dimes per game, so his prop is spot on. However, this is a tough matchup. Over the past 10 games, the Rockets are allowing the sixth-fewest assists per 48 minutes (24.0), and they've only given up three performances in the last 30 days of 8+ assists to a single player -- Stephon Castle (8), Jalen Williams (10) and Russell Westbrook (10).
Anthony Black over 17.5 points vs. Charlotte Hornets (-140)
BetMGM, 2:45pm ET
Ken Crites: With Franz Wagner out (ankle, 22.2 ppg), the Magic need to look elsewhere for points. Enter Black, who has posted 21.8 points per contest over his past four games. Tonight Orlando hosts Charlotte and a questionable LaMelo Ball (thumb). I'd prefer a higher O/U (223.5), but fellow starters Tristan da Silva and Wendell Carter rarely shoot, leaving plenty of opportunities for Black, Paolo Banchero and Desmond Bane. Bane has been stumbling lately, with only 16.3 points per game over his last six games. Black is finally emerging as a key cog for Orlando. The K-Train is 11-5 this season and 61-48 overall, so feel free to fade!
