NBA Teams Battling Injuries The Most

While the NBA regular season's still fresh, it's already been a brutal one for the defending Eastern Conference champions, with the Indiana Pacers losing 12 of 13 with seven injuries in those contests.

Unsurprisingly, the Pacers are tied with the Detroit Pistons as the NBA's leader in wayward injuries, with both teams listing seven players on their respective injury reports, one more than the next closest contenders, those being the Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies at six injuries apiece.

When broken down by point total, Indiana's reign atop the league's injury table is even more pronounced, with the Pacers racking up 78 points already, 10 points ahead of the Thunder and 18 ahead of the Mavericks.

So far, the NBA's other standard-bearers, injury wise, have been teams like the Los Angeles Clippers, who have five injured players and 58 points on our scoring system, while the Portland Trail Blazers have five injured players and 53 points as a team.

Others, such as the Grizzlies (six injured players/48 points), Pistons (seven injured players/47 points), Utah Jazz (four injured players/41 points), Charlotte Hornets (four injured players/40 points) and Philadelphia 76ers (four injured players/31 points) have seen varying level of injuries so far but have yet to be impacted long-term the way that the league's walking wounded have been.

How Impactful Have Injuries Been?

Depending on the team, it seems like suffering a cavalcade of injuries at this junction in the NBA's marathon of a regular season can have mixed effects on a team.

That's because racking up injuries doesn't have to be a season-killer the way it's been to date for the woebegone Pacers, with the Thunder sitting atop the league table at 13-1, just as Detroit's currently atop the Eastern Conference standings at 11-2 so far.

This season, three of the 10 most injured teams in the league have a .500 or better record, with the Thunder, Pistons and Philadelphia 76ers all at or above that mark, while the Trail Blazers are 6-7.

Conversely, Indiana's 1-12 mark stands alone at the bottom, behind other cellar-dwellers like the 4-10 Mavericks, 4-9 Clippers and Hornets and the 5-8 Jazz, speaking to the net loss that comes from losing players to injury in the 82-game meat grinder that is the NBA league year.

For now, at least the defending champion Thunder can lay claim to being oddsmaker's leading candidate when it comes to 202NBA championship betting odds, with the team at FanDuel Sportsbook giving OKC +175 odds of winning it all again in 2026.
