DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jameson Taillon, PIT vs. TB ($7,500): This salary makes it easier to take a risk on Taillon in a potentially tough matchup against Tampa Bay. The Rays boast a high-end .341 wOBA against righties but also sport a 24.8 strikeout percentage. Taillon is coming off an excellent outing against St. Louis and boasts a 2.89 FIP and 9.0 K/9 through three starts since returning from the disabled list.

Dinelson Lamet, SD vs. ATL ($7,000): With a .318 wOBA against righties, Atlanta is a middle-of-the-pack matchup for Lamet. The young flame thrower has been hit hard through his first six starts (6.60 ERA and 5.01 FIP) but has also showcased a dominant pitching arsenal with a 12.6 K/9 and 32.3 strikeout percentage. Lamet has allowed just five runs through his past 12 innings, too.

CATCHER

Welington Castillo, BAL at TOR ($3,100): Dating back to last season, Castillo sports a .204 ISO and.356 wOBA against southpaws. This is a daunting matchup against J.A. Happ (.291 wOBA allowed to righties during the same timeframe), but the price is right to take a contrarian flier.

FIRST BASE

Mitch Moreland, BOS vs. MIN ($4,000): With Kyle Gibson allowing a .399 wOBA and 39.0 hard-hit percentage to left-handed hitters this season, Moreland is a solid option batting in the heart of the Boston lineup. After all, the first baseman has posted a solid .878 OPS, .241 ISO and .354 wOBA against right-handed arms this season.

SECOND BASE

Brian Dozier, MIN at BOS ($4,600):David Price has struggled since returning from injury and has allowed a .343 wOBA and 2.3 HR/9 to right-handed hitters through his six starts. Dozier enters with a .298 ISO and .400 wOBA against southpaws dating back to last season.

THIRD BASE

Josh Donaldson, TOR vs. BAL ($4,300): This salary doesn't match the .395 wOBA that Donaldson has posted against right-handed pitchers over the past two seasons, and Ubaldo Jimenez surrendered nine runs through just 2.1 innings during his last start. Additionally, Jimenez has allowed 15 homers through his 10 starts this year.

SHORTSTOP

Xander Bogaerts, BOS vs. MIN ($4,900): With a .378 on-base percentage and .364 wOBA against right-handed hurlers this season, Bogaerts is a high-floor, high-upside option that stacks nicely with Mitch Moreland. Kyle Gibson has struggled against right-handed hitters allowing a .395 wOBA to them this year.

OUTFIELD

Aaron Judge, NYY at CWS ($5,700): Over the past two seasons, James Shields has served up a .374 wOBA and 2.3 HR/9 to right-handed batters, so paying the toll for Judge is in play. The outfielder has posted an elite .372 ISO and .467 wOBA against right-handed arms this season, and Guaranteed Rate Field is a hitter-friendly venue.

Brett Gardner, NYY at CWS ($4,400): Another Yankee to pick on James Shields with, Gardner sports a solid .361 wOBA against right-handed hurlers and should leadoff Thursday. With nine RBI, five stolen bases and 16 runs in June, Gardner also offers sneaky upside through his counting stats.

Keon Broxton, MIL at CIN ($4,300):Homer Bailey has only made nine starts in the majors over the past three seasons and was shelled for eight runs over 1.2 frames in his first outing of 2017. Broxton owns a respectable .344 wOBA against right-handed arms this season, but he's in the midst of a prolonged hot stretch with a .374 mark over 192 plate appearances dating back to early May.
