$Signed a two-year, $8.39 million contract with the Hawks in July of 2023. Hawks exercised $4.5 million team option for 2025-26 in October of 2024. Contract includes $6.9 million team option for 2026-27.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Bursting onto the scene down the final stretch for Michigan, Kobe Bufkin's sophomore year emergence earned him Third-team All-Big Ten honors. Over Michigan's final 12 games, Bufkin averaged 17.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.9 steals-plus-blocks per game while shooting 52.0 percent from the field and 45.1 percent from beyond the arc. Bufkin was a McDonald's All-American in 2021, and he's very young for his class, not turning 20 until September 2023. Bufkin is a do-it-all combo guard specializing in scoring at the basket. His body control and offensive polish are impressive. He's a well-built lefty at 6-foot-5 that can score at all three levels. Bufkin makes good decisions with the ball in his hands, is a great rebounder for a guard, and has a size that yields natural versatility. Finding a prospect with so few holes, flashy skills, and above-average size at a premium position is rare. The sample size on Bufkin is small, but there are strong indicators that he's fundamentally sound with a high ceiling. He'll need some reps orchestrating an NBA offense, but his hustle will earn him minutes, and his shooting is already credible. The slashing should translate. Bufkin may be locked into a sizable role by the later stages of his rookie season and could become a reliable sixth man sooner than later.
Serves as backup PG in debut
GAtlanta Hawks
November 19, 2024
Bufkin (shoulder) tallied five points (1-7 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and one rebound across 12 minutes off the bench in Monday's 109-108 win over the Kings.
ANALYSIS The second-year player had missed the Hawks' first 14 games of the season while recovering from a right shoulder subluxation suffered late in the preseason before he was cleared to make his debut Monday. He immediately supplanted Keaton Wallace in the rotation and served as the backup to Trae Young, who covered the other 36 minutes at point guard. Though Bufkin can play off the ball, the Hawks are now back to full strength on the wing after Bogdan Bogdanovic (hamstring) returned to action Monday following an extended absence of his own, so Bufkin may not see his minutes pick up unless Young misses time.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Although Bufkin could be well down the depth chart in Atlanta, there remains a path to minutes given his proven ability as a legitimate scoring threat. Selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Bufkin brings with him plenty of size, standing at 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-8 wingspan. He averaged 17.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals as a sophomore at Michigan, numbers that translate well to the NBA. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray are likely to soak up the bulk of the guard minutes, with Patty Mills and Bogdan Bogdanovic serving as backup options. However, Bufkin could certainly see the court on most nights, especially with Mills' career now on a sharp downward trend.

Beginning to enter rotation
GAtlanta Hawks
February 26, 2024
Bufkin has appeared in three of Atlanta's past five contests, compiling 29 minutes of action, which represents his first true playing time of the season after logging just six minutes through Atlanta's first 52 games.
ANALYSIS Bufkin has a chance to emerge in the rotation with Trae Young set to be sidelined for the next month due to left hand surgery. Bufkin's competition consists of journeymen Patty Mills, Wesley Matthews and Garrison Mathews, although the direction Atlanta opts to go in could depend on how the franchise values a Play-In Tournament appearance. Bufkin remains a developmental piece at this time.
