Fernandes was expected to take on Jared Gordon at UFC Vegas 102 on Feb, 15, but he withdrew from the fight only a few days before the event due to undisclosed reasons.

Fernandes defeated Mohammad Yahya via TKO (punches) at 4:45 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.

Fernandes struggled mightily in terms of grappling in his split decision defeat to Marc Diakiese last November, but he looked excellent in the stand-up in that fight, and that carried over to this one against an overmatched Yahya. Fernandes kept things simple, destroying his opponent's front leg with repeated low kicks. With Yahya hobbled and unable to move properly, Fernandes fired off a vicious one-two combination that closed the show. Every opponent that faces the Brazilian moving forward is going to test his wrestling, and rightfully so given how solid he has looked on the feet in his first two UFC bouts.
