Gets no help from judges in defeat
Prado lost to Nikolay Veretennikov via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC 318 on Saturday in New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Prado isn't going to be happy with this result, and he certainly has a legitimate gripe. Of course, the fact it took Prado more than half the fight to get anything going certainly didn't help matters any. He consistently attempted to lean on his wrestling, landing 3-of-10 takedowns for 6:49 worth of control time. Prado's surge in the second-half of the fight was aided by the fact Veretennikov was exhausted. Ultimately, two of the three judges didn't think he did enough to win. Prado is just 23 years old, but he's now lost three straight and four of five with the UFC. He seems like the ideal candidate to be let go, have success on the regional scene, then return to the company at some point down the line.

Fighting Veretennikov
Prado will fight Nikolay Veretennikov at UFC 318 on July 19th, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Prado is set to take on Veretennikov and will look to get back on track after losing to Jake Matthews via unanimous decision on Feb. 8. Veretennikov has lost his first two UFC fights, both of which have come within the last year. Prado has a three-inch deficit in height and reach, but he has slightly more experience.

Drops decision at UFC 311
Prado lost to Jake Matthews via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 312 on Saturday in Sydney, Australia.
ANALYSIS
Prado struggled with the physicality of Matthews all evening, which isn't the least bit surprising given the size difference between the two. A pure striker, Prado was unable to get inside with any consistency and thus was unable to string together combinations and significantly damage his opponent. The 22-year-old Argentinian is a classic "tweener." He's too big for 155 pounds, but doesn't have the size to consistently compete at welterweight. With a 1-3 record in his first four UFC bouts, Prado won't have the chance to compete in any division if he doesn't get his act together soon.

Taking on Matthews
Prado will face off against Jake Matthews at UFC 312 on Feb. 8, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Prado, who was most recently defeated by Daniel Zellhuber in February of 2024, will look to bounce back against Jake Matthews at UFC 312. The 22-year-old Argentinian fighter, who is 1-2 during his time with the UFC, will face off against a much more experienced fighter in Matthews.

Toughness on display in defeat
Prado lost to Daniel Zellhuber via unanimous decision (27-30, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
Prado is ridiculously tough. He started this fight on fire, hammering Zellhuber early on before the latter regained the momentum. Ultimately, Prado, like many who came before him, had all sorts of issues with the massive length of his opponent. He ate countless shots that would have fallen any mere mortal, but Francisco was right there when the final bell rang. In fact, both men received $50,000 bonuses after this bout was awarded Fight of the Night honors. Prado is one of the youngest fighters on the UFC roster at age 21. He's 1-3 in his first four fights with the company, but there's long-term potential. It wouldn't be surprising if Prado gains experience elsewhere before remerging at some point down the line.

Up against hometown lightweight
Prado will fight Daniel Zellhuber in a lightweight bout at UFC Mexico on Feb. 24, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Zellhuber, a Mexican-born lightweight, will fight in his birth country, giving Prado a hometown disadvantage for his next bout. However, that will not stop him from trying to build a winning streak, which is possible after his mid-2023 win over Ottman Azaitar.
