Moreno will fight Amir Albazi in a flyweight bout at UFC Edmonton on Nov. 2, UFC chairman Dana White announced Tuesday.

Moreno was expected to fight Albazi in Mexico City earlier this year, but Albazi withdrew from the bout due to an undisclosed injury that required surgery. However, the fight is back on, and these two top contenders in the division will collide in the UFC's return to Canada. Moreno is coming off a disappointing loss to Brandon Royval in what should've been the fight against Albazi, so there's no question he'll aim to bounce back here. Moreno has gone 2-3 over his last five fights.

Moreno lost to Brandon Royval via split decision (47-48, 49-46, 47-48) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
The very definition of a coin flip, this one could have gone either way. That's of little solace to Moreno, who entered as a -300 favorite and fought hard for 10 minutes before becoming stunningly ineffective over the course of the final three rounds. Simply put, Moreno got outworked by Royval late. Moreno may have landed the harder blows, but Royval's output and the former's tendency to turtle up and allow his opponent to fire cost him this fight. Moreno spent most of Round 5 trying to hold Royval up against the fence, only for referee Herb Dean to separate the fighters on multiple occasions. You would guess Moreno was perhaps sick or hurt, but he appeared fine after the final bell rang. The 49-46 scorecard, the only one which went in Moreno's favor, was awful. We all know the flyweight division lacks depth, but a late-notice main event loss in your home country as a massive favorite is going to be difficult to overcome for Moreno, particularly in the short term. The 30-year-old drops to 2-3 in his past five bouts.

In a 25-minute, back-and-forth war, the only clear frame the now-former champion won was the second. Moreno had the edge in terms of cardio, but he allowed Pantoja to land 6-of-11 takedown attempts for 8:26 worth of control time. He spent north of two minutes in each of the final three rounds being controlled on the mat -- an exceptionally bad visual in an exceedingly close bout. Brandon did do an brilliant job of reversing position on the mat on a regular basis, but he simply got outworked a good portion of the final 20 minutes. All that said, the gap between these two is non-existent, and the UFC could very easily book a rematch here despite the fact Pantoja has now one each of the first three fights between the two.
