Tournament Preview

For the first time, the European Tour heads to Al Mouj Golf in Oman this week. The links style course along the coastline of the Gulf of Oman has been a part of the Challenge Tour, and now a new stop for the European Tour. The course consists of undulating fairways and greens with water and bunkers throughout. There is only one tree on the course, which can be found on the 17th hole. Wind is the primary defense at Al Mouj Golf. Being an inaugural event, there isn't tournament history to pull from, but many of the golfers have seen this course on the Challenge Tour. Ball striking appears to be paramount this week and will be focused along with current form.

DRAFTINGS PICKS

Alexander Levy - $11,700 (14/1)

Levy is the favorite, and with good reason. He has shown great form to start the year with a solo seventh and solo fourth. He finished T55 at Maybank last time out, but has all the skills to contend at Al Mouj Golf. Ranked 15th on tour in greens in regulation, Levy hits more than 62 percent of fairways. He also has some added inspiration – making the Ryder Cup team to play on his home soil.

Thomas Detry - $10,300 (25/1)

I am going to the well once again with Detry, who has continued his strong start to 2018, finishing T23 at Maybank. Detry hits 72 percent of greens in regulation and ranks 84th in driving accuracy on tour. He also can hit it a mile off the tee. I still believe a victory is coming soon and will ride it out, until he gives reason not to.

Andrew Johnston - $7,600 (33/1)

Johnston said he has recommitted himself to golf this year, and that appears to be the case. He has started the season well, making three of four cuts. The lone missed cut came last week at Super 6 Perth, with it's unique format. I believe "Beef" will bounce back this week and build on what he has begun this season. He is hitting 74 percent GIR and almost 64 percent of fairways. The crowd favorite from England has proven he can handle the wind and I believe is a must play at this price, given the odds.

Marcus Kinhult $7,300 (60/1)

The young Swede is returning to Al Mouj Golf after finishing solo second here in November on the Challenge Tour. That should give him great confidence along with how he's played to start the season. Kinhult has made three of four cuts and finished T12 last time out at BMW SA Open. Kinhult is a good ball striker, hitting more than 67 percent of greens and 64 percent of fairways. Look for the good vibes he has in Oman to elevate his game this week.
